coated bullets
 

anyone used these? the ones coated with moly? i have a buddy that uses them said he has had no problem at all. Clean time droped on his riffle and got a tighter shot group. Just woundering if anyone had any luck with these. I am about to buy a new Rifle and if these are that good and worth the price ill have to start using them.

I have heard that the moly coat really cannot be cleaned out of your bore and it builds up a sulphuric acid under the residue. (No kidding.) So I have not used them. It will be interesting to see other responses on this.

I like them, especially when used on a squirrel gun, my 223 can shoot all day and two patches and its clean. The Berger bullets are EXTREMELY accurate. the build up is due to not starting w/ a clean barrel. The stuff is already there from previous shooting then the moly coats over it.

I use barnes xlc coated bullets in my 300 ultra they patern well, I don't know about fouling. I think any cartrige pushing over 3,300 fps should use coated bullets.(increased barrel life)

It sounds as though you believe that barrels wear out due to friction when in fact throat erosion isthe determining factor in a barrelsaccuracy life.Coated bullets have not been proven to reduce throat erosion.

I don't use or recommend them. There are some who say if you use only moly coated bullets and nothing else, it's OK. But one of my customers a few years back took his new 6MM-284, which I had fired a few shots through and gotten some very good groups, and put a couple hundred moly Berger bullets through it. It started shooting worse and worse. He never shot any non-coated bullets through it. He brought the gun back and, after checking all the usual stuff, I spent days cleaning all the moly out of the barrel. Once it was clean, it went back to shooting one hole groups again. After a couple of deals like this, I pretty much stay away from moly coated bullets.
