New reloader...7mm-08
I bought a ch tool & die press on ebay for $11.00. Went and bought an RCBS funnel, case holder, deburring toll, die set, bottle of case lube and the case holder board. What all more do I need to buy. What is a good recipe for the 140 gr Nosler BST? And what manual should I buy? I know absolutley nothing!

RE: New reloader...7mm-08
You need a powder scale, primer pocket brush for large and small primer pockets, inertia bullet puller, case trimmer, powder measure, powder trickler, powder, cases, bullets, primers, and measuring caliper. For my first handloading bookthe "Speer Reloading Manual" is veryimformative. Good luck.

If you have intentions of reloading Nosler, I would suggest to get the Nosler manual. Only after getting the book you could then look for powder. They will have the powders listed for the 140gr. bullets and there’s quite a few. I would also suggest to pick up a couple different types of powders. I have found out when reloading for my 7 mm-08 that my rifle doesn't like certain powders and that’s why a variety of powders is nice to find that perfect recipe. Good luck..

I agree with trailer. If you want to load Nosler, get a copy of the Nosler Reloading Guide Fifth Edition. In the front of this manual, there are very good sections on "Getting Ready To Reload" and "Reloading Step By Step". Study these sections BEFORE you attempt to do any reloading. They will also provide valuable information on the various reloading gismos you need for reloading as well as the "How To" process of reloading. Once you've got all your reloading gear & manuals, you might want to check out the following links. I've got a Remington Mountian LSS in 7mm-08. Be safe, have fun and good luck. firstshot ---------------------------- Make your first shot count! |
RE: New reloader...7mm-08
The best recipe for my rifle is:
Rem Case Win LR Primer Nosler Bal Tip 140 grain IMR 3031 40.5 grains 2.800 OAL |
RE: New reloader...7mm-08
pintoshot, After alot of load working, my best grouping with my Browning Micro Hunter is 42 gr of IMR 4064 behind a Hornady 139gr BTSP Interlock bullet and CCI Large Rifle primers. Now, I like Nosler bullets and use them exclusively in my .270, but the 140s don't shoot as well in my 7-08. (ps: and the Hornadys are about 1/2 the price of the Noslers and are very effective on deer sized critters).

RE: New reloader...7mm-08
Look around and see if you can find an old Lyman reloading manual, 45th edition. It explains the why's and when's in good basic language, plus lists some info others have left out. Some of the newer calibers are missing, but then again, so is my 28-in. waist and dark hair. Keep pluggin' along------
