Once fired or new brass.

How do you like your brass, I like mine once fired so the strech is done.

I like mine once-fired, as well, with a little seasoning on top. Just kidding. I do prefer mine once-fired....because I neck size only, after the first firing.

I also like new brass to start with, not saying that I’ll through it away once it’s been fired.

if I go out and BUY brass, I'll buy new when I can... But I don't have anything against once-fired... I'd just like to get that one more load out of it...

crimedog,

While I do all my case prep work on virgin brass, I do not start working for a load until all brass has been fireformed. I've actually measured the loss of velocity that takes place when firing full length sized cases, the larger the case, the greater the volocity that is lost, and runs from 25 fps to 45 fps. Good luck.

I purchase new brass to reload. I have my loads worked out and the brass will form to my chamber.

I am interested in getting into reloading, and I have a question brass. On average how many rounds can you reload using the same brass before it wears out. Say on a medium load 7mm Rem mag?

I purchase new rounds to reload as well. As for how many times you can reload that depends on what your reloading and how hot you reload it. Any signs of cracking or separation and in the garbage it goes.[:'(]

Trophy, I would shoot 3 times and then anneal. Maybe 3 more times. My problem more than not is accuracy goes down hill before my neck cracks or loose primer pockets.

I can't directly answer that as I don't wait for my brass to wear out. After 6 or 7 reloadings I usually toss the brass and buy more whether I need to or not. You might could go 10to 12 reloadings, maybe more,I don't know. Annealing might be necessary at some point like bigcountry saiddepending on how you size your brass. I use a Lee collet neck die which works the necks a minimum amount, so I've never had to anneal.

What nameBrass are you using BC?

For my 300RUM, Remington, this is the gun I would only be able to shoot 3 times. And then wouldn't like the neck tension and might, I say might notice drop in accuracy.

For 7mmSTW, I have been using winchester and some federal.

For my 308win, I use federal gold

For all others like 7mm-08, 270, 243, 30-30, 45-70whatever I can get my hands on, mostly remington.

more like 6 or 7 for the rem mag Bigcountry.......remember all cart. are not firebreathers like the old 300 rum :D

Sure, I agree mossy, even though you take down rick, which is driving me little crazy, but you enjoy that.

Here's the think, I can't say if its the brass or a bad day. All I know is I kinda noticed that after 3 firings of the 300RUM, I had trouble some days to repeat results from 2nd fire. Maybe just a bad day at the range, maybe me, who knows. I always say, you have to be in the mood to shoot the 300RUM, or 338win mag or bigger. Not after my usual pot of coffee morning.

Crimedog,

I thought that I'd throw in this little tidbit. Your getting a lot of suggestions to use your cases until they start to split. I've done that, until I felt hot gas on my cheek one day. Now I use cases untila new primer seats with little or no feel to it. Primers are removed and cases junked right then. I also buy cases about the time I start on the third loading of a batch of cases. Then when a batch is retired, I have a new batch waiting to be loaded. If I really have my act together, I even have a load worked up for it. Good luck and God bless.

After firingonce with factory Winchester ammo in .22-250, the necks split. Gun used: Remington M700 BDL CD. Ammobought in 1997. May have been a bad batch.
