re-loading accureacy
 

Howdy all, I just went yesterday and shot my new 30-06 with my first re-loads. They didnt do too badly, but they werent as accureate as my buddy's reloads. I could keep a 2 inch group with his and a 4 inch group with mine. He was using less powder and of a different kind. Any recipies that anyone here is partial to? I was using 55-56 grains of H4350 with a 150 grain hornady FMJ and a winchester primer. I am thinking of backing it down to 52 or 53 grains. I know alot is dependent on the rifle and what it likes, but load recipie is a big consideration as well. Any advice? EJ

try H4895 the 30-06 seems to like that stuff the best, also H4895 was originally a military powder used in ball 30-06 ammunition. If i may ask what is the rifle you are shooting?

Some rifles have a definite preference for a particular bullet, either for or against it. Try another for a bit and see if it helps.

If you are serious about an accurate load,you may have to try a few different bullets in different weights and a few different powders.There is no magic load that will be accurate in all guns chambered for a given cartridge.

I have always had good results with RL-19 and IMR4831. Good luck.

Try several different charge weights with what you have now, start at the min load and work your way up in 1/2 gr increments toward the max load. H4350 is a good powder for the 06.I also like 4064, I4350, H380 and have tinkered a bit with 748 and 760.Are you planning on using this gun for hunting? If so I would suggest focusing your effort on developing a load for the bullet you plan to use for hunting. The load that the fmj's like may not be the load the hunting bullet likes. For my just about everything load I use 165 gr Hornady btsp's pushed by 56.5 gr of I 4350. When I was shooting 150's my load was 57.6 gr of I 4350.

Remington 700 ADL. 22 inch barrell. It seems accureate with factory ammo, I think it is unquestionably accureate enough for me, but I wanna get as close of a pattern at 200 yards as I can. EJ

RL 19? I might buy a pound and give it a try. I do think that it is good advice to develop a load with the hunting bullet I am going to use. I am going to use it for hunting elk and mule deer. .243 for the rest. EJ

My 30-06 likes IMR 4350 at the max loads. All of my guns I reload for shoot the best with themax loads. I don't have my exact data handy but I will try to post it.
