9mm questions
Well I have been pricing and stuff, and came up with a few questions.
1) How much powder for 1000 rds.? 8lbs would do around how many rounds? 2) Wolf ammo is about $100.00 for 1000 rds at Cabelas, could I expect to do better than that reloading? Thanks guys, lemme know. |
RE: 9mm questions
You can load a lot of rounds with 8 pounds. As far as price goes, look at this.
Cases $80.99/1000 $.08/1 Primers $16.99/1000 $.02/1 Bullets $40.99/1000 $.04/1 That is $.14/round minus powder. But you can load those cases many times over. So, one you have shot them once, you have $.06/round plus powder. The wolf ammo is $.01/round. But with reloads, you will get the exact components you want, and a better product. And the wolf ammo cannot be reloaded later. Hope this helps some. |
RE: 9mm questions
Do you have a guess as to how many rounds for 8 lbs?
Thanks, that helps a lot. |
RE: 9mm questions
There is 7000 gr of powder to a pound ,devide that by the load your using .
With the loadI use I can get 4666 rounds from 8 lbs of powder. I buy once fired 9mm brass for$10.00 a thousand ,pay $12.99 a thousand for primers and $39.00 a thousand for 115 gr FMJ bullets . And it don't foul my guns like Wolf ammo . You can do the math |
RE: 9mm questions
do you buy from Hal?

RE: 9mm questions
to be honest 9mm factory ammo is cheap enough its really not worth the time to reload IMO. Unless you are wanting to load specialty or hunting loads. For plinking/target shooting id just stick with cheaper ammo like S&B or bulk winchester stuff, Yes cheaper not cheapest LOL :D, i wouldn't even use wolf 9mm in my P-38 if the stuff was free. through J&G you can buy 1000 rounds of S&B 115 grain fmj 9mm for $115. heres a link to J&G www.jgsales.com.

RE: 9mm questions
I just buy the wolf ammo. I just plink and use mine for self defense so I don't need more accuracy. I don't have a target 9mm anyway. Factroy ammo works fine for my 9mm and .380. I do reload for my .357 and .44 though.

RE: 9mm questions
This winter the local police gun fellow told me they'd stopped reloading. It's cheaper for them to buy the ammo.

RE: 9mm questions
Okay, so reloading 9mm might not pay. What about other common cals, like .45 ACP or .40 S&W?
I have an old Mauser in what I think is .32 ACP, reload that? |
