Friends Dont Let Friends....

Use Barnes bullets :D

I dont know what the deal is but Ive tried so many loads in so many rifles using barnes bullets and could not get a decent group with them. The best I could ever get even at 50yds was about 3" and at 100yd was 4"
All other loads and bullets I have tried were doin 1" or less at 100yd all day.

Just my $1.248 :D

I used to agree with you. Until I tried the TSX in my 300RUM with RL25 at 200 yards. They are very sensitive to COL.

Jeep4x4:

Did you start out with a barrel cleaned with a bore cleaner like Barnes CR-10? Good luck.

Ok, truth be known that I only tried barnes bullets in 2 different guns. My browning .308 and my remington 700 .300 win mag. The .300 would do 2 to 2.5" at 100yd and the .308 would do 1" at 50 but that still isnt good enough for me because I average 1" at 100yd with all my other loads.

Yeah, I clean my guns very good after a trip to the range. They would shoot "OK" at faster velocities but I cant afford faster velocities because more powder is used and .300 mags aint easy on a lb of powder.

My 2 cents worth is the barnes x bullets are hunting bullets and id be plenty happy with 2 inch or less groups at 100 yards. If i was wanting benchrest accuracy I wouldnt be using those x bullets.

BC on the other hand those are some really impressive 200 yard groups.

The best bullets I have ever used as far as accuracy goes are the sierra gamekings, nosler ballistic tips, remington bronze points and speer grand slams. Too bad the speer's cost as much as they do.

speer grand slams
See there you go. Best I ever got was 2.5MOA with them out of my 300RUM.

If you can't afford a few extra grains of powder per shot,a 300 mag is a poor cartridge choice in the first place. If that few cent's per shot is that important you would be far better served with a cartridge such as the 308 win.

There are as many (or more) people cursing Barnes as there are those praising them.
Their previous offerings WERE very sensitive to overall length/bullet distance to the lands. As such I never tried them...............UNTIL I saw the, then new, TSXs at the NRA Convention and talked to their Reps. I had to try them in my .308s when they hit the shelves and have been very pleased with them. They aren't really sensitive to length as I fire them in my M1A at a standard 2.80" length and get GOOD accuracy with the right load. AND almost no copper fouling at all - another big problem on the older, non-coated Barnes bullets. Performance on game is outstanding, just as advertized, even on heavy critters like wild boar.

They ain't cheap, but they are worth a try.

hehe figured it might get a spark outta ya :D:D, its ok I own 1 ford a 1998 ****** ZX2 I bought for my other half, i tried to talk her into the 94 bronco with 20,000 less miles and $2000 less but she didnt want a "BIG" car, now we live in the land of big trucks and SUV's and she now wishes we would have bought the bronco now lol. that ZX2 is the first ford I personally bought I had a mercury that was given to me when i was in high school. But all my other vehicles were Chevy's, a 1983 caprice classic wagon ( made a great hunting vehicle except when it was snowing) , then I had a 1996 S-10 SS and my truck now a 1994 silverado 4x4.

I'll have to jump on the "they don't shoot for crap" bandwagon. I've tried Barnes bullets in alot of different rifles over the years and never could get good groups. Maybe HDW is correct in his 'hunting' group size theory, and maybe I was expecting too much. I HAVE had good success with the new TSX bullets in my 300 RUM with BC's advice, so I may try them in other rifles. I guess I just feel why go with premium prices when I can get good performance and accuracy with Sierra's or Noslers.

You know I got awesome groups with the TSX, but I still don't trust them on a expensive big game hunt. I still am going to stick with accubonds and partitions for my magnum rounds and BT and gamekings for my 08's.

It's funny how two people can use the same bullets and get such different results. I absolutely love barnes bullets. My groups are consistently half of what they are with any other bullet with my .300 Sav and my .338 win mag. I just started loading for my .243 WSSM and it seems to love the 85 grain trip-shocks. the first group I fired with them with the recipe out of the June issue of Shooter's time was less than half an inch at 100 yds. And...you can't beat Barnes performance as a hunting bullet. One shot kills are the rule not the exception and I have been shocked at how little meat loss there is when you get one up in the shoulder. I know there are plenty of Barnes ditractors but I've tried many different bullets and I'm a die-hard copper head.
