Default 10 Gauge Pet loads!

I am going to finally start my relaoding for my 10 gauge. Was wondering if any of you would be interested in sharing with me some of your pet loads for either steel or Hevi-shot. Thanks!

with shotshell loads especially steel and hevi shot, you need follow the load data tables exactly to the T theres NO! absolutely NO! experimenting with shotshell loading. If you need a particular load look through your data and pick a load that suits your need the best. good luck

My favorite goose load in my 10ga is a Max load. its 63grs of Blue dot, with 2oz of BB shot, with a Rem 10 piston wad and 209M primers. It will bring them down. vangunsmith

In that case I can point a couple loads I use from Alliant powders 2002 Reloaders Guide,
Using their STEEL powder (really good stuff).

Hull: 10 ga. Remington (yellow plastic base wad) Wad: Precision reloading TUFW105

Primer: Fed. 209A Shot weight: 1 1/4 oz. ( i use #2's and BB) Powder: STEEL, 50 grains

Note: this my is my general use load when shooting over decoys, the velocity stated is 1,555 fps. It is a quick load really reduces the need for leading on the further shots, recoil isnt that bad either comparable to 12 guage heavy loads.

Hull: 10 ga. Remington (yellow plastic base wad) Wad: Ballistic Products mm10312

Primer: Fed. 209A Shot weight: 1 5/8 oz (I use BBB, T and TT) Powder: STEEL, 37 grains

Note: I use this load for hunting over decoys in fields when birds are skittish and usually dont present anything closer then a 40 or 50 yards shot, The velocity stated 1,310 fps, A little on the slow side but throws a nice dense pattern pretty far with the larger shot through a steel full choke. good luck and good hunting

What Hull??? not knowing what hull is used and just using any hull coulds result in chamber failure from excessive pressure, Vangunsmith before posting a load recipe you should post the entire load recipe. 63 grains of bluedot with a 2 oz payload of steel shot??? thats sounds a bit bogus anyway unless it with heavy shot, but even then the powder charge seems a bit high.

Federal hull, win209 primer, 49gr Alliant "STEEL" powder, "SAM1" 3 1/2 wad, 2 felt spacers under shot, 600grs #2 steel shot. 1575 fps. 600grs steel shot is 1 3/8 oz which is the same pellet count as 2oz lead shot.

My mistake, the hulls were Federal. From now on i will reserve my loads, unless i am asked! and double check my info, for its best to do that for sure. Many apalogies to all, whom should i check with?

Do you always have to use the hull specified.....beacuse alot of Alliant powders recipes call for Remington and Winchester and I have a ton of federal hulls??
