Bible Verses

If you have a Bible verse that inspires, guides, or just calls out to you, share it here with your own understanding of the verse. I think those of us who are of faith can all benefit from each other's insight.

If you happen to be lacking faith, please respect others and refrain from posting on this thread.

To start it off, I thought I'd share the verse from my daily reading.

"Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. James 1:12

All of our lives have trials and tribulations to work through. When we work through them, we are working towards God's plan for us.

Not a verse but a prayer i like

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

Proverbs 14:23

In all toil there is profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty.

Words I try to live by everyday. My dad drilled a couple others into me over the years. He used to say "Hard work is it's own reward".

And also , when we were busy on something, and I might be yapping and leaning on a shovel or rake he'd say "Less talk, more work".

I miss him terribly but his advice was not wasted.

On the base of my Mom and Dad's tombstone...

"I thank my God upon every remembrance of you" Philippians 1:3

I like James in general--he was a master of sarcasm. He shuts down a ton of today's "religions" with one simple verse--2:19.

"Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble."

33 "O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!

34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?"

Romans 11:33-34

I like these two because it reminds us that we are imperfect and flawed and therefore our view of God is imperfect and flawed.

GM 54-120 - Ah the serenity prayer, it has served me well over the years.

"Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:13-14

Isaiah 41:10 - Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be anxious, for I am your God. I will fortify you, yes, I will help you. I will really hold on to you with my right hand of Righteousness.

This has always been my favorite. Brings comfort in hard times.

If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in the large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won't be honest with greater responsibilities. Luke 16:10

"I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to The Father except through me."
John 14:6

In this crazy, wicked world I draw a lot of comfort from that verse.
