There is certainly no further evidence needed that Barack Obama and John Kerry made the world a much more dangerous place when they released to Iran billions and billions of dollars in frozen funds in exchange for a nuclear deal that wasn’t worth the paper it was printed on. Iran’s past attempts at securing a nuclear bomb, their continued financing of terror in the form of Hezbollah and Hamas, and their ballistic missile program aimed at the destruction of Israel is all the proof you need.

But if you DID need another reason to believe that this is a hostile, rogue nation that should never be trusted on the global stage, an Iranian official provided it last week.

According to Mohammad-Javad Larijani, Iranian officials helped the 9/11 hijackers in the months leading up to the attack by obfuscating their international movements and giving them safe passage through Iran. In an interview published by Al Arabiya, Larijani, who serves as an international affairs assistant in Tehran, Iranian intelligence authorities were responsible for making life easy on the terrorists as they plotted the worst attack in U.S. history.

“Our government agreed not to stamp the passports of some of them because they were on transit flights for two hours, and they were resuming their flights without having their passports stamped,” he said on Iranian state TV. “However, their movements were under the complete supervision of the Iranian intelligence.”

Comforting.

While U.S. government officials have long suspected that Iran played a role in facilitating the 9/11 terrorist attacks, this marks the first time a senior Iranian official has admitted to that role. In his interview, Larijani stopped short of admitting that Iran avoided stamping the passports in an effort to protect the terrorists.

“The Americans took this as evidence of Iran’s cooperation with al-Qaeda and viewed the passage of an airplane through Iran’s airspace, which had one of the pilots who carried out the attacks and a Hezbollah military leader sitting [next to] him on board, as evidence of direct cooperation with al-Qaeda through the Lebanese Hezbollah,” Larijani said.

This apparently strikes Larijani as an unreasonable leap in logic; we would say that it probably does not even scratch the surface when it comes to Iran’s foreknowledge and assistance in carrying out the devastating attacks. Who knows, we could be wrong. But it is no longer a disputed fact that Iran played some role in helping these hijackers gain safe passage to the United States, and that is a crime for which there can be no forgiveness.
