I'm in the private pay group. Many in my profession have wrongly placed their worth at what they feel they deserve. Let me put it this way, I'm still working while they have lost every thing. Making friends is real worth.
I'm almost always way behind in work until lately. Many people stopped calling me because I was so far out from getting to them. When things settled down and those people found out I wasn't so far out my work load increased to where it had been. I was just enjoying the break.
Went back to someone I did work for and she told me that since I worked there people have been in awe over the work. People hang out their car windows as they drive by and take pictures. All I did was make some new friends that were friends of friends of my family by giving them what they paid for.
It really is so simple these days to make a friend.
As far as private pay going down. How can a capitalist blame the government? Supply and demand right? Whole lot of crappy companies out there giving nothing for an arm and a leg.

Mindofmyown, did you even read the article, apparently NOT. A quote "
At the same time, government-provided benefits — from Social Security, unemployment insurance, food stamps and other programs — rose to a record high during the first three months of 2010.
Those records reflect a long-term trend accelerated by the recession and the federal stimulus program to counteract the downturn. The result is a major shift in the source of personal income from private wages to government programs." Looks to me like the government IS to blame since they've added a lot more people that are now relying on the GOVERNMENT for more HANDOUTS. This trend has got to stop some where, because it's been proven in history that Socialism doesn't/can't work. The problem is, once you get people lining up for THIER handouts, it's mighty hard to take the handouts away from them...
Let me guess...you're going to ask the dumb question that'' sound something like, "How's this the government's fault", and if you can't figure it out on your own, then it ain't worth explainin'..

It is soooooo true that private pay is at its lowest. Its because so many out of work they employers lowered it to take advantage of the overcrowded market. Even then they (private employers) are getting the cream-o-da-crop and the unemployed are taking it because unemployment bennies are running out. Sad, sad, sad. I could have walked into an I.T. job doing my forte for an average of 45-50k on the low side. Now even if I am even lucky to find something its at 30-35k! and that is if I don't get beat out by some other person with a bachelors degree in computer science and all the MS certs you can shake a stick at! Its really bad out there. I have found that its in WHO YOU KNOW in these times. Before I exited stage left from my consultant position at a fortune 50 company about a year ago I heard my boss say I have a stack of resumes as thick as a novel with guys that have more experience and degrees than anybody that I currently have working for me. Then he continued to say at and some are willing to except a little more than half of what I am paying my best man! He than babbled something about his budget and how he will look good after all is said and done. No joke this is a real story!!!!!!!

So now I do landscaping and clean toilets. Even then I have guys running around with mowers in the back of their trunks (yes trunks) not trucks cutting regular sized lawns for 10 dollars and 1 acre lots for 25 bucks! With a push mower none the less! Either way wages have dropped for everybody and since we are the land of opportunity EVERYBODY IS TAKING ADVANTAGE making it even worse.
Just wanted to add..........that as far as the pay for cleaning tiolets go I dare someone to stick a plunger in a toilet as fast as me! I'm the best at it. I practiced long and hard to perfect a tecnique just to beat out the regular old $8 an hour janitor. LOL see what I mean? Overqualified and under paid. Hey at least i can make fun of myself. Humor, its all I got left. LOL

Actually I was just going to ask just that. I did read the article and while it does quote some statistics about how much government benefits rose, it does not say how this has anything to do with why private income dropped. It just stated that they are happening at the same time.
