RE: Quebec Winter Caribou Hunting
Just received a e-mail from my friend at the kisk, he says the caribou are starting to come in.
He says there are caribou from kisk to mirage. ![]() |
RE: Quebec Winter Caribou Hunting
I realize this is earlier then last year, but is this too early for those going up later? Hopefully they hold up and feed for awhile in that area!! We leave on the Dec 2nd to hunt on the 5th!

big or small... When will you be leaving camp kisk? We are planning to arrive sometime late on the 4th, depending on travel conditions. We will be in a red F150 SuperCrew with a wooden rack built on the back. There are three of us. Hope to see you there!
PA bow season has ended and now I'm off to NY for the opener of their slug season. Then it's back to PA for our rifle season opener and then off to Quebec to hunt bou...It doesn't get any better then this! Wow, time to do a little reloading and sighting in that .308!! |
RE: Quebec Winter Caribou Hunting
This is just a little early to suit me. If the lakes aren't solid and not too much snow maybe they will hover around the LA1 area and feed for a while. I guess we'll see what mother nature does. Tomorrow it's white tail and the caribou will hopefully wait around untileveryone gets their opportunity.

Reports from some of the remote outposts above 56 still have animals in volume. THis tells me the herd is spread out and thefemales aremoving away from the bulls - the calving has been good and they are just moving to keep predidation low. You can see this migration has moves in small increments - if you look at years back, they hung far to the north, than has 4-500KM moves week to week, passing through Laforge in a few days or a week.
Temps are also 34 F todayand this is very warm compared to past years and this will keep them in the Laforge area longer. This could mean a great few weeks of hunting from now until mid-dec if the weather hold above normal. The forcast is for a drop to normal soon - but looking at todays tempsand the current pattern itmay be someweeks to get back to normal. In 2004, the warm weather had the herd going back up and the bulk did notcome down below LA1 - Kisk had some great late hunts and this maybe this case this year as well. If LA1 is not hard they will end to stay in and around the dam - but with 680K animals thatherd will cover 200 square KM. |
RE: Quebec Winter Caribou Hunting
I'm leaving Saturday morning for Donats.
I'm about to start searching the web for maps and weather info, any links would be appreciated. We don't even know if we should bring a snowmobile or not. When they say gas available does that include diesel? |
RE: Quebec Winter Caribou Hunting
They had diesel last year.

Some links below for information. I would also recommend buying a map from the Fish Cop station @ K381 - it is laminated and shows area 22 - roads and land marks. I think I paid 15$CAN and it is a real good deal.

RE: Quebec Winter Caribou Hunting
I maybe all wet but it looks like a repeat of last year. They staged on hte other side of La Forge for a couple of weeks before they came down. Nothing was frozen solid. Good luck to all who head up.
We got shunked last year for Thanksgiving week. CB |
RE: Quebec Winter Caribou Hunting
Thanks for the replies guys, I see snow in the forecast, any idea how to find out how much is on the ground. I'd hate to haul up a snowmobile and not be able to use it.
