RE: Albertans?
Thanks JD.
On average how long does it take to get drawn for Mule Deer? Here it is about 4-5 years for either sex in most zones. 2 years - antlerless mule tags. We also have an over the counter archery either sex mule deer tag, which is nice. I noticed while looking at some of Mz that general season (I assume rifle) is only allowed on thurs, friday and sat. What is with this??? Also what about Muzzleloading, where does it fall? (Scoped, inline in particular) |
RE: Albertans?
In many zones antlerless mule deer tags can be drawn every year but buck tags usually take 2 to 4 years depending on the zone.It is true that many of the southern zones only allow hunting on thursday through saturday. There is no general muzzleloader season in alberta just a couple of special draws like camp wainright ,and muzzleloaders can be used in the shotgun zones around edmonton and calgary.

RE: Albertans?
Thanks Stubblejumper. About the same as here for mulie draw, maybe even quicker...which is good. That no hunting on mon-weds is lame. What purpose does this serve???? Sucks about no special ML season, sask it is a full month for whitetails and mulie draw before rifle (OCTOBER). Almost no sense in owning an ML in Alta, hey! If I move it may have to go, make room for a new CF!
I guess the bonus is Sheep. Thanks again |
RE: Albertans?
Ya a muzzle loader isn' t alot of good over here, but our bow season allows you to get a general tag (either sex) for 2 months prior to rifle season. So even if you don' t get drawn, you can hunt them way before anyone toting a rifle can. The only thing that sucks is if you do get drawn, you can only hunt in that WMU and you can' t hunt mulies in any other WMU. There are a few exceptions to this like if you get a antlerless draw as well. You can have both a antlerless & antlered at the same time. Whitetails have certain supplemental antlerless as well, so really you could have 4 deer tags in 1 season. Sounds a little confusing but it' s all in the regs.

RE: Albertans?
Thanks JD. Same as here, so I understand draw, etc.
Really to bad about the ML, I love those things. |
RE: Albertans?
If a person was successful in 3 draws and bought all the over the counter deer permits, you could hold 13 deer tags and possibly shoot 5 bucks and 8 does in Alberta.
I love the fact that we have such a variety of game: Elk, moose, mule deer, white-tailed deer, pronghorn, bighorn sheep, mountain goat, black bear, grizzly bear, cougar, wolf, coyote, fox. And the bird hunting isn' t bad eather. A fellow almost can' t find time to fly-fish for trout in all our wonderful trout streams. (almost!) Robin |
