Moose Down!!!

Last Sunday October 15, Me and Mooseslayer3 went out on a liesurley drive for grouse and if we happend to see a moose or deer it was a bonus!

We drove about 60 km away from our town and had come to the end of a road with a lake on the left hand side and a cut block that continued without a road. About 100 yards Jon (mooseslayer3) spotted a moose, We got out and verified that it was a legal Bull (albiet small)

The bull was 50 away facing head on at us. Neither of us could get a steady shot to drop the bull where he stood. Jon took off towards the cut block to intercept the bull as he was heading towards the timber at the back of the cut block.

When we reached the cut block edge the bull was running away at about 200 yards on a dead run. One Cow call later the bull stoped in his tracks just long enough for Jon to put the crosshairs behind the shoulder of the bull and the 225 grainWinchester Accubonds™ was on the way striking the bull hard. He went 30 yards and piled up!!!

Pictures will follow tomorrow as the camera is going to get developed!

Sorry about the long story

Long story is great!
Congrats, those immatures arent that easy to find. Im in BC where immatures (2 point or less) are the only open size of moose, so itts great to see em! I got one early this year, and saw one more, but yeah theyre kinda rare!

Congrats

Congrats and enjoy the fruits.Sorry I missedthe long story..lol!

So you guys can basically only shoot yearling bulls in BC?Assume this is forregular over the counter rifle season and the rest are via draw?

Thanks Guys!

Yes it was a 2 point bull that is a regular "over the counter" tag.
Neither me or him had a Bull Draw. It was the 1st 2 pointer we saw all season so we wernt going to pass on this guy.

Next year Iam applying for a bull draw there as there is a bull in there with 5 on the brow! WHAT A BRUTE!!!

My girlfriends moms boyfriend lives in Vanderhoof and hunts in around that Tatuk Lake area. Ive seen some of his racks, and wow... Im talking 40" bulls and he says " Yah, good bulls.. not the biggest " I almost died... check into that area.
As far as I know you can buy the tag over the counter....

Skeet: there are some open seasons in BC for all bulls, but they are in August and run between 7 and 15 days. besides that only yearing, "spike fork" bulls are open year round.

Yeah, besides that to hunt a mature bull in the rut its via draw.

Im in Kelowna - was up your way (Chetwynd to be exact) and got a spike fork!

Was actually just invited today for a Elk/Moose/Sheep hunt on Williston by jetboat, but I havent decided if I should go - am in 4th year university and time is a rare commodity!

I see, congrats once again.

In my way of thinking any legal moose is a good one. Then again if I had my way 40" or less would be just fine for every year I buy or draw a tag here in saskatchewan, after that they have been nip and tuck in the quality department. Much like elk I really hunt moose for the eats, though getting them to talk or come running to the call is a very close second;).
