Saskabush, good meeting you bud and sure next time your back touch base we'll arrange something. Congrats tothe bro-in-law on getting his first buck...super! Sounds like the traffic picked up out that way, thursday I only saw you guys in my travels. As to the buck on the tree rows it was north and east of where we met, the same area I mentioned to you in our convo that day;)! You kinda got the crapo stick this week for hunting but hey such is life sounds like you had a good time any way. Safe travels home. PS sorry for razzin' you.

AG, understandable with the added info why you might want a 7mmremmag and especially a lighter rig. Being a OTC user your limited with what you can do with either but your right the 7mm rem mag has more potentials with 140grs for sheep hunting purposes.Another option would be to buy a dedicated sheep gun and keep the 300wm as well. .277 cals are very popular for such usage and it might be worth checking into availability of ammo, etc on the likes of a 270wsm.

Wiat a minute you said you want a yote buster and sheep gun what about a 25-06? Federal load 100gr TSX that would work great for any sheep. 25-06yields a flat trajectory and is an excellent deer sized cartridge. It doubles very nicely as a varmit rifle as well. I plan on building a .25cal myself, most likely a .257 wby on a 7rem mag chambering b/c being left handed I can't find a 25-06 in a rifle I like(currently).

Back home now.

Ag, I'm right in Peace River. I think about 2+ hours east of Ft St. John. I've been doing most of my hunting either north of PR or 1 1/2 hrs southeast near High Prairie. Hunting is good in all directions up here, I just haven't had time to explore them all. Most rifle seasons kick off sept 17 in these parts and lasts until the end of Nov. Usually a three week archery only season beginning late august as well. Having the early rifle season is nice. This year myself, my hunting partner in HP and all four of his other hunting buddies had whitetails over 150 by the end of Oct. Some monster mulies out here too but they are on a draw, same with moose. Elk are general tags 3pt or better and are starting to get out of control in some areas. All in all, a pretty good area.

Skeeter, no need for apologies as long as you can take a little return fire. Traffic really got worse on saturday. Everywhere you looked there was a truck full of pumpkins. I came across a wounded buck of my own sat evening. I would have ended it for him but it was after legal on posted land. Poor little bugger had quite a limp on him, looked like he must have taken a round in the arse end. I doubt mother nature will go easy on him.[&:]

Here's Keith's first buck. Fortunately my camera batteries didn't die until after we'd got a few pictures.

Saskabush congrats to your bro there nice lookin buck. I passed through Peace River last winter on my way up to Zama for seismic and i loved it there. As you go up north around manning and that there are critters everywhere made me get homesick lol.

Hia, I'm really enjoying Peace River. The town itself reminds me as much of a smaller city in Saskatchewan than any of the other Alberta towns I've lived in. It must be the people or something but it just seems less like an fast paced Alberta oil town (which it is) and more of a prairie town.

I haven't explored the manning area yet but i've heard nothing but positive coments about the quality of critters up there. I'm thinking next year there will be some scouting trips up there in the summer. I've also been told it's one of the easier places in the province to shoot an elk.:D

Good stuff Saskabush, nice first buck your bro-in-law shot and cudo's to you both being able to grin and bare it...she was miserable out there. Looks like he has some genes in him, for a 2 1/2 year old good tine length....his daddy would be proud! No worries I have broad shoulder so "fire away":D!

Easy elk hunting, is their such a thing? If so I am in..lol.;)

Now I never said elk hunting was easy, just that it was easier in that area compared to the rest of the province;). Like I said before. You're welcome to come upand find out for yourself anytime. My door is always open.:)

2 1/2 was just a guess. Could be 3 1/2. Pretty thin horned though so I guessed 2. I'm an optimist :D

Nah, she does roll her eyes a lot though:D!

Better be careful withan open invite never know when a road trip will happen and you'll hear the banjo music a playin'. Hia you in?? LOL
The thought of chasing elk twice in one yearwould make me go gaga, the wife on the other hand might pack up and move out. Nah when I arrive home no matter what the elk are doing I'm always bugling so she'd stay just for that I'm sure!!:D
