JD, ain't that the damn truth. Easiest animal to find when you don't have a tag but once you do...look out. I can say this for certain no more farmland mule deer for this guy, I said itbefore but this time I mean it. I mayhave to wait a few extra years for a tagbut at least I won't be banging my head against the wall....as much. Just found out the one area is now closed till at least rifle due to a anthrax scare in the PFRA to the North, they are moving the cattle as we speak and locking her down tight. The buck Ihave my eye on isn't in this area but not that far either and I pretty much figure he'll move that way as rut approachs.[:o] Oh well with every roadblock their is a detour.

I plan to go lookin for a couple deer (whites and mules) in Sept/Oct.

November I will be heading to Alberta for a white and mule hunt, and then on to Sask to try and learn a new area up North. I typically hunt around Leader Sask. but want to hunt the forest fringe this year lookin for a big boy.

What are you guys' plans?

Leaving next friday for elk ( rifle opens the 18th). While elk hunting, one never knows maybe adeer or see big blackie to shoot as a bonus. I plan to try with the bow next saturday for the bear, assuming the weather cooperates. I have an invite to do a moose hunt with a couple fellas in our elk crew, being a special drawI would be only their as a caller but could fill a second whitetail or my bear tag. WhileI would love to go I am thinking I may declinebeing drawn for mulie's (1 buck and 2 does) and ML season opens Oct 2nd (the same week they'll be hunting moose). Of course being married is also factoring into my plans;). Thrown in between Oct and Decwill bewhitetails. I plan to be hunting the forest fringe more this year myself for whitetails, if the mulie's play alongthat is.

Without giving away any of your personal honey holes, maybe we can talk closer to the season and you point me in a few directions up North Sask, as Im clueless to that area.

Skeeter...Anthrax[:'(][:'(]WTF! That's a new one. WOW!!! And I thought this heat was bad for hunting. Sorry to hear that bud. Don't give up on the farmland, you know it's a great way to hunt the critters and makes it that much more sweet when you connect. I'm off after work for a bow hunt then an early morning as well. Have a tee time @ 4:15 so back home for that:DLife is rough!! Hopefully I'll get some pics of something next week. Good luck to all!

My Hunting schedule is pretty uncertain this year as it depends entirely on my work schedule. Unfortunately, my work schedule is largely dependant on water temperatures so who knows when i'll get time off to go hunting.

Anyway, this year i'll try to be hunting mulie does and cow elk as soon as the season opens (Sept 17). Starting Nov 1, I will go after calf moose and whitetails and by the end of november I hope to make it back to Sask for the canadian resident whitetail season. If I still have tags left for mulies and elk i'll finish by hunting them again until the season closes Dec 20th. I also have a bear tag that almost got filled last night on a pig of a blackie. However, the farmer was working the far end of the field so we could only sit and watch him waddle away.

Skeeter, I know how frustrating it can be when you plan on huntingthe pastures only to show up and find the gates locked and no hunting signs posted. Don't give up on the mulies and good luck with your elk.

Thanks boys, I ain't given up still have tags to fill and season has only begun...no worries I'll be givin' er nails. I am just sick of hunting mulie's in whitetail territory, sure numbers and some good bucks but only on the 2nd week andalready WTFdid I do this to myselfagain[&o].

JD anthrax has been going around this year in Sask. due to all the standing water (wet spring, late snow,etc). In this case a precautionary measure but the PFRA's don't take thisstuff lightly. YUK is right, wondering if it affects wildlife the same? Good luck to you and the weekend!

Ag, don't worry I don't give out my honey holes;)! Do you have any idea where you want to hunt? I assume the west portion of the province coming from that direction. Lots of good areas in the NW - primary rut willlikekly be done by the time the last week of November comes but that ain't a bad thing as they should be putting on the feedbag and still sniffing for the secondary cycle. I'll help where I can but you should allocate some time to get familarized with the area, permission,etc...unless you like running on pure luck!

Skeeter, I have been hunting in Leader Sask. for the past three years, and have heard some generalized stories that bucks tend to be even larger up North. I have also heard people tell me that that is a misconception, and the reason less large bucks been recently been taken is due to the unusually warm weather (and hence lack of movement).

If me and my buddy do in fact plan to head North, which at the moment looks like a very good possibility, I would be looking toward anything north of North Battleford. I dont think battleford is in the forest fringe, but I want to stay in/near a town that is within an hour or so drive of decent hunting.

For the scouting - because of the drive and work schedules, I would guess that we are going to be limited to a day of scouting (in field). I know this is cutting it really short, but Ive got to work with what I have - in saying that, what Northerly communities would you personally point me towards to start lookin at in regard to accommodation and acquiring some air photos, land parcel maps, and topo maps?

Does anybody know if there ismuch Crown land within the borders of the Edmonton Bow Zone and if so roughly how much? Just curious. :)
