September 20-26 @ Lake Minto, the headwaters of the Leaf River. The outfitter is Tuttulik. Went last year and had a great hunt. A super place for bowhunters.

Question foe Heinz
I am interested in putting together a caribou hunt. I am from NY. Do I need to go through a hunting safty course in Canada to hunt there like I did in NY. Also what has been you success rate. If you don't mind how much $$$. I know there are hidden charges some where. Thanks in advance for an info you could offer. Good Luck

Thanks Heinz...

Just when I thought I couldn't get more anxious, I see your pic... awesome.

I'm off to the north on sunday. Word has it the weather is going to change on sunday from what it is currently (75 during the day, 50s at night) to 50s during the day to 30s at night.

My wife has already started to tell me we need to talk about something other than hunting. I told her it's going to be a LONG fall...:D

Thanks for the pic

I have been caribou hunting the last 2 years in Newfoundland and going back again this year. They have woodland caribou which have stouter bodies but smaller antlers. It is all spot and stalk since the animals don't really migrate like the baron ground species. The meat is delicious and the hunt is a real hard work but a blast. Decent drive from New England area.

RE: CARIBOU

Got back last Sunday. Am busy getting ready to head up to Roberval, QC for a moose hunt on Thursday.

The Caribou hunt was an absolute blast. I went with Jack Hume Adventures and was very impressed with the whole operations from start to finish.

There weren't too many caribou passing though, relatively speaking (typically 10 - 15/day in groups of 4 or 5). The warm weather was pushing the Caribou north, so the big migration wasn't coming through. However, mostly what we saw were decent to good bulls. I tagged out with a day and a half to spare. I thought about going for a bear, but decided to help the other hunters who hadn't tagged out; hike their meat out so they could keep hunting.

We had a couple long bow hunters from PA that came. It was a real tough trip for them since it was primarily spot and stock hunting. Eventually they broke through and borrowed rifles :-).

I haven't had time to hook my camera up to download my pics, but will eventually. Neither of my bulls had amazing antlers, but it wasn't meant to be a real trophy hunt for me, but I was vey happy with what I ended with.

Surprisingly, the bugs were only bad for one day, which was real nice.

Well, good luck to all.

Cheers
