winnipeg...what is there to do?

Hello fellas.

I'm thinking about re-locating to Winnipeg soon. My wife has a job there. Right now we're in thunder bay on.
My question is...what is there to do in Winnipeg as far as fishing and hunting goes? Right here, I drive 10 min out of Thunder Bay, and I can go moose, deer, bear or bird hunting, fishing in local rivers and lakes etc.

From what I've seen the few times I've been to Winnipeg, all I saw were corn fields :)

I'm just thinking about options :)

anyone?

thanks!!

Magnus, first of all it ain`t just corn fields. You have all sorts of fishing as close as Downtown. I have shot all of the big game you mentioned within 1/2 hour from the city(except the moose which was 11/2 hours away). We have MAJOR waterfowl hunting here and also upland hunting which include the grouse, Hungarian Partridge, and ptarmagin.

We have the famous Red River running right through town along with the Seine. You can catch 14lb Walleye or 30lb catfish or a dozen other species if you want 20 minutes up the road, from shore or by boat. If you want to know more, just email me and I will try to help.
Also, I think there are about a dozen people on here from Winnipeg, who hopefully will read this. Good luck.

There is certainly no shortage of game and fish within easy driving distance of the city.
As rbduck said. Tons of deer opportunities with an hour of the city, Moose anywhere from an hour and a half to 4-5 hours depending on where you want to go. I leave this Sunday for a week of bowhunting moose and the drive will be about three hours.
You can shoot ducks and geese that roost on the retention ponds in the city at night and then fly out past the perimeter to feed. A little over half an hour and you can hunt near Oak Hammock Marsh. About an hour to Delta marsh. Lots of little marshes and other great waterfowl spots in the Interlake area.

You want fishing. An hour and a half to the Whiteshell. Walleye, Pike, bass, you name it. A little farther north and you get a little more remote in Nopoming park. More great spots to hunt and fish.

It's all here, just a little farther than 10 minutes.

9 months of winter just means more ice fishing and snowmobiling!! I'll take that over 30 degrees and humid any day.

Thanks a lot for the nice repsonses!!
I didn't mean to sound rude about the cornfields btw :)

ptarmagins? wow I haven't hunted for those since I lived in Iceland (that's where I'm from)

I agree, 9 months of winter is better than 40C days. I'd take 11 months of winter any day!

ok I'm moving!! you convinced me!! woohooo

Magnus,
Do yourself a huge favor and make sure that you buy all your hunting gear prior to moving out here to Winnipeg. Or else you will find yourself in either SIR or Farmers. Both place's will RIP YOU OFF. They price fix between each other. They won't price match any of their competitor's ie. Russell's, Wholesale Sports, MacDonalds, or Heights! Other then that Winnipeg's a pretty good place to hunt and fish!
