Some are light gathering and some project IR and have a device to see IR.

A night vision device typically works by amplifying the available light in a dark environment, allowing you to see in complete darkness. This is done through the use of an infrared illuminator or by using image intensification technology that amplifies any ambient light.

As for the best night vision binoculars in 2023, it really depends on what you're looking for. Some popular options include the Armasight Apollo Pro Gen 2+, the ATN BinoX-HD 4-16x, and the Night Owl Optics NOB5X.

However, it's important to consider your needs and budget when choosing the right night vision binoculars.

Night vision devices work by amplifying existing light, such as moonlight or ambient light, to improve visibility in low-light or dark conditions. They utilize various technologies, but the most common type is called image intensification.

Image intensification night vision devices consist of several key components:
  1. Objective Lens: Gathers ambient light and focuses it onto an image intensifier tube.
  2. Image Intensifier Tube: Converts photons (particles of light) into electrons through a process called photoemission. These electrons are then amplified and accelerated to create a visible image.
  3. Phosphor Screen: Receives the amplified electrons and converts them back into visible light, creating a greenish image.
  4. Eyepiece: Magnifies the image and allows the viewer to see the amplified and converted light.
As for the best night vision binoculars in 2021, it depends on your specific needs and budget. Here are a few highly regarded options:
