Western Big Game Scope? 10x vs. 14x?

I know this topic is probably beatin to death.

Years ago I had a 2-7x, and put a 4-12x and loved it, had that gun had a 3-9x I'm not sure I would have replaced it.

Since then I have used some 4.5-14x scopes.

I'm trying to talk myself into a 3.5-10x type scope.

I have taken 300-350yd shots before, and I could see taking 400yd, but would like to be able to take a 500-600yd shot, so what scope should I have?

I've noticed that Leupold VX3 scopes tend to be lighter than Zeiss Conquest.

Also what about certain scopes without parallax adjustment?
I saw 1 leupold model with this as an option, so you can adjust or not, your thoughts?

I use Burris "Signature Select" 4X-16X 44MM.

I set it on 4X while I am hunting (and parallax at 50 yards); I have never regretted the ability to power it up when necessary (just as I adjust my parallax for yardage) !!!

With higher magnification it requires larger objective lens and higher quality lens to get the job done.

A good 2.5x10x42 seems like the ideal, compromise to me, 10x gives plenty of power and clarity with a good optic.

To get equal optics out of say a 14x or 16 x you would have to get a 50mm or 56mm obj and that gets heavy and throws the natural balance of the rifle, off. Plus you would really have to step up in quality of optics to get equal clarity .

For instance you could probably spend $500 on a VX3 in the 1ox range but have to step up to $1200 for a VX6 for the 14 or 16x range.

I just recently purchased a 3-18 Swarovski it seemed like the right low end and top end magnifcation. Not sure at how mich you are wanting to spend but these 6 and now 8 times zooms look like great choices. Not only that but this swaro is super clear.

If have a couple of 4x12x50 Swarvos. These old eyes need all the help they can get.
