Which long range scope best for money

I am looking at variable scopes for longer range hunting but don't have a Zeiss-Swarovski budget. I want to be able to zoom at 300yds and out without covering my target. I am not sure what to get for top end magnification and get the most bang for my buck. I would like to keep it under $700 and still have good clear optics. Any opinions? I am shooting a .300wsm.

Intended prey?
Will this be a dual or single use critter getter?

I use a 4X-16X 44MM and I am glad to have the range of power.

Burris Signature Select with a Illuminated Ballistic Plex reticle.

Nikon Monarch 3 4-16x50 would do the trick and would get you well past 300 yards when you're ready. Versatile 4:1 magnification range and 4" eye relief.
