Vortex Viper or Viper HD

Planning on buying a set of viper binocs. I can buy last years model viper in 8x42 for $450 and the newer HD models go for $650.

I find it hard to believe that the newer improved Vipers are worth the extra $200. Anyone try these binos out?

Thanks in advance
Willy:confused:

The HD's are super clear and crisp edge to edge. Great quality. I actually have the 10x42's and love them. I can't say they are $200 better but they are better.

Where HD really shines is at the 10 power in a 50mm objective lense.
If I need a pair of binos in a 12 power and higher bino make and model in a 42 or 50 mm objective lense.
It would be HD no question about it..
I would never buy a pair of 8x42 or smaller in a HD or ED model unless I got them for a steal..
There is very little noticeable and benefitial difference for 200.00 in this class of power and objective sizes that's worth paying extra money for..
Larger power and large objective lens sizes, really benefit from HD glass..
If I needed a spotting scope, made today, I would be looking at HD or ED makes and model lines
This is where ED and HD really really are worth spending extra money on..
My Leica of yesterday is great, its 10 yrs old now, but there is alot of new makes and models made today with ED and HD lenses that do the job as good, some better, and are priced less than what I paid for my Leica..
I'll never get rid of it, but it does fall short of what's expected out of spotters in today's time in that class cause of ED and HD glass..
