New scope

I'm going to purchase a new .270 deer rifle soon (Win M70, Browning X-Bolt, or Sako) and am looking to add a nice quality scope to it. I have several Leupolds and am VERY happy w/ them. I'm considering the VX3 Fine Duplex in 3.5-10x40 for this rifle, majority of shots will be w/in 150 yds. What do you think, should I consider another scope or a 50mm obj. lens? I heard good things about Zeiss, Leica, & Swarovski scopes when I researched them years back, although the last is out of my budget.

I'm in a similar boat. As much as I want to wait until I can afford a Swarovski, I believe that a Leupold would get me through legal shooting light, and anything beyond that I might be more tempted to read the legal shooting light through my scope and not my watch lol

I have a VX3 2.5-8 X 36. It's decent enough although I'd advise against a fine duplex. It tends to disappear in low light. The Zeiss Conquest 3-9 X 40 will do all you need and is reasonably priced. Another viable option is the 3-9 X 42 Sightron Big Sky. For superior low light use, I highly recommend the Trijicon 3-9 X 40. Although it's more expensive, the low light use is wonderful. Also, look at the new Vortex Viper HS line and the Bushnell Elites.

Go with a SAKO !!!! As far as scopes, Leupolds in VX-II or 3s, or the Zeiss Conquest, both with a a plex

Proud owner of two of your choices;

Browning X-Bolt stainless stalker in .338 win mag

Sako A7 stainless in 7MM rem mag

Both wear the same scope (in fact, all my boltguns wear the same scope);

Burris signature select 4X-16X 44MM with illuminated ballistic plex reticle.

I know there are a few good deals out there online right now and discounts even for stuff like scopes. See what's out there.

Sheridan- did you use the Talley integrated rings to mount your scope to your x bolt? If so, which height base did you use? I would like to mount a 44mm objective scope with 30mm tube on my x bolt, and am concerned the low mounts will be too low (especially to add flip caps). thx in advance

Pup,

I almost alway use Burris "zee" rings, but in this case I went with the Browning Bases/Rings; built for the X-Bolt (4 screws = X = the name for the model ).

I use low rings, because I'm only 5'6" and need a low mount to get a good cheek weld.

If you want to use flip-up lense covers, you would need to use medium height rings (maybe even high, depending on which rings you decide on).

Perfect, thanks for the reply-

I was going to get a Leupold VX-3 for my new rifle.......... until I looked at it side by side with a Conquest! My new Conquest will be in today!
