Which Scope?

I have a Sako A7 in 300WSM that I will be using for deer hunting over crop fields and power line right-of-ways. I have three scopes that I've narrowed down to and was wanting some input. They are: Leupold VX-II 4-12x50 with LR; Nikon Buckmaster 4-12x50 with nikoplex ; Burris Fullfield II 4.5-14x42 with ballistic plex. I'm looking for sturdyness of the scope to magnum recoil, clarity in low light and dependability. The price ranges are from $300-$500 and am I overlooking any scopes?

I have a Sako A7, but in 7MM RM.

I topped it with a Burris Signature Select 4X-16X 44MM Ballistic Plex W/ Illuminated Reticle.

Love the set-up, shoots great - no problems !

I recommend getting an objective smaller than 50MM, so that you can mount it on "lower" rings to obtain a good check weld; this is especially important with a magnum rifle. IMO

If your considering the Burris FFII 4.5-14 check out the Pentax Pioneer 4.5-14. I understand it is identical to the Burris and made in the same factory (if it didn't say Pentax on the side you couldn't tell if apart from the Burris). Best Buy has a clearance on them for $135.00. I have 3 of them and find them to be every bit as good as the 2 Burris FFII 3-9 scopes I have.

I would agree that a 50mm may not be the best choice. The scopes currently on the market are very bright with 40mm objectives. The VX-II and the Buckmaster (maybe the 4.5x14) scopes are very good choices, but check the eye relief numbers on any scope that will go on a rifle with any noticable recoil.

I have the Buckmaster in 4.5X14, came on the Savage I bought. It is a pretty decent scope.

Every other scope I've ever owned has been a Leupold, but I will say to take a look at the Nikon Monarchs, IMO better glass than a VXII and arguably as good or better than the new VXIII's for less money.
