adjusting a scope
I recently switched scopes from 1 gun to another. I did not have a bore sight so I "winged it" I had to adjust horizontal a bunch. Should I reset the scope and get it bore sighted?
My question is how do you, or do you, reset a scope to center? (equal adjustment all directions) |
imo... bore sighting it isnt going to change anything. My suggestion is to shoot the gun at 25 yards and then to hold the same dead bull hold. While holding dead on the bull move the sights to where the first shot hit.
This method was shown to me by a good friend and it has worked well for me sinse. |
If you had to adjust near to the last few clicks available; I would start over.
Just count the total clicks available, and then click to half that amount - mount and re-zero. And yes, laser bore sighters are helpful, but the 25 yard line is a good place to start ! |
how do you know how many clicks are available?
|
Turn it all the way to one end to start.
Count the clicks as you turn it to the oppisite end. Come back half the amount of the total clicks, and you are back at the mid-point. |
If your not on paper at 50 yards then I woul go have it bore sighted. Most shops will do it reasonably cheap, most time cheaper that the ammo you might shoot guessing to get on paper( depending on calb).
If on paper just keep sighting in then shoot out further and readjust. |
RR,
VERY cool !!! Best thing I ever learned from you ! It's the simple things in life that matter most to me........................... Now, I assume you mean good for 25-50 yards ? Not, 1,050 yards - right ? |

turn the scope down to its lowest power, either stick the objective against a mirror, or hold a small mirror agaist it, look through it, you'll see the reticle, and a reflection of it, turn the knobs until the reticle and its reflection are lined up, its centered.

Also after turning the turant.
Bump the stock with your hand, or on the ground, some times you need a little bump for the change to be made. And you can get a laser bore sighter at Wal-Mart. JMHO |
