H&R in .223
 

A friend has an H&R, blue, nice looking laminated stock, bull barrel in .223 that he is willing to part with. The gun is in like new condition, but what I'm asking about is he has a BSA target scope on it. He says the scope was about $250. It has the reticle with the two or three dots for the inside half of each crosshair. Very clear and will bring the distant tree line right up in your lap. Are the mid range to higher end BSA's ok?----

I suppose they are "o.k." but I would not go out of my way to purchase one. I've seen an illuminated mil-dot BSA that costs about $125. For "about $250", I could get something a whole bunch better. :biggrin:...IMO

I agree, the BSA wouldn't have been a first choice or even a second for that matter, but the gun is like new with a bull barrel, in a good long range ground hog caliber, and the clarification, magnification, fit and finish on the target scope all look real good, so if it holds up, I'll leave it on there. For $400, it seems like a pretty good deal. My .30 calibers will be scoped with a Bushnell, Leupold, Burris, Sightron or Vortex or one of the others we've been talking about, thanks to the help Iv'e gotten from you and the others. Charlie is telling me that this rifle with this scope is a phenominal tack driver so we'll see. I guess I'll let the groundhogs be the judge------

Uh oh, might have a problem here. Stopped by Charlie's today, he still had the gun in the truck and said take it and pay him later. I agreed I'd take it and check it out, but told him I wouldn't use it until Iv'e paid for it. Got a chance to really check out the scope, went on the net and read some reviews. Not good news. One of the reviewers put the same scope on his 06 and after every third shot, the scope was completely off again, couldn't keep it zero'd. Also, checking the BSA web site, this exact scope goes for about a hundred bucks, not a little over two hundred. I really like the gun, but if this scope can't handle the 06 recoil, how long before even the .223 takes it's toll. I don't want a scope with limitations. I'm not even considering any scope that sells for under $300 so the BSA won't work for me. I think I'll pass on this deal---
