I put a 4-16x40 bushnell banner on my marlin with a standard plex reticle and it works fine from 25 out to 150 yards. Long distances? how long do you mean? Shooting out past 150 with that little pill is tricky, the wind plays that little sucker alot even at 100. as far as scope choice, from what have listed, If I had the choice I would get the zeiss. Don't rule out the Bushnell elites, they offer mil dot scopes for half the money.

That's a nice rifle but if it was me no way I'd spend that much money on a scope for something like a .22 or a .17. At best I'd probably go with a Burris. More than likely though if it was mine it would be topped with a decent priced Simmons or Bushnell. You don't have the recoil of a big rifle to worry about.

A 17HMR can shoot 200 yards, but wind drift makes it mighty tough. I have a Mueller Eraticator 8.5x25x50 on mine. I won't use it for anything bigger than coons or possum though. That's why I have a .204. Even 100 yard shots with the 17 with a 10mph cross wind is quite challenging. There just isn't enough mass to keep it cutting through wind. It's still one of my favorite guns to shoot though.

I'd check out the Vortex line. Their Crossfires are decent enough and sales can be found. Their Viper's are better though and still relatively inexpensive.
