Scope questions

How do illuminated reticles work and what are their pros and cons?
Thanks guys
Oh and also, on some scopes there is a turning knob on the front of the scope that has numbers like 50, 100, 200 etc what does that do?

RE: Illuminated Reticles

It depends. Most are battery powered with intensity level setting dials / turrets. Trijicon (for example) uses Fiber Optics and Tritium with no batteries. Some actually produce too much illumination rendering them less than useful.

RE: Illuminated Reticles

If you have good glass, I don't see the benefit of the illuminated reticle. On my scope if you can see the deer then you can see the reticle (German #4) and make the shot with no problem, even if it is dark thirty. Two brothers I know bought identical Zeiss scopes a few years ago, except one had the illuminated retical. He said if he had of known he would have never bought the illuminated.
