Stubblejumper. I bleieve the Elite 4200 has better coatings than the 3200. It has been a while since I have been discussing optics but I think the 3200 series is only multicoated and not fully multicoated. I can tell the diff in the view between the 2. But like I said before, I don't like how unforgiving the elite series is for view and eye relief. But the 4200 is truly impressive in the quality of resolution and brightness. As good as anything out there under 600 bucks

I have owned and shot a couple of 4200's. The scope had acceptable glass quality for the price. Actually the clarity was good. The tracking seemed to work alright, however I really did not put the scope through its paces in tracking. IMO the problem with the 4200(in the higher powers) is they are way too big(long) and bulky. I had one on a 22 inch Encore barrel, and the scope with the sunshade was almost as long as the barrel(almost). The scope was very unsightly on the rifle. And I wanted the rig for a lightweight rig, and the 4200 was too heavy. Tom.

Guys, thanks for continuing the discussion without me. I've had some things come up here at home that have taken my time. I will continue to research this and follow this thread as much as possible.

What about the Vortex scopes, like the Viper, they have been getting great reviews. There cs and warranty is just as good as leupold to my understanding with a cheapr price tag.

The Vortex Vipers are pretty darn nice. I wish they had a better reticle selection, and the ER on some of the higher magnifications is a little short BUT their glass is every bit as good as a VXIII or VX3 IMO.

I'm with Ron I have two Nikon Buckmaster 4.5X14X40 BDC one is on my Thompson Pro Hunter 243 and I just got the second for a 300 win barrel I ordered for the same Thompson. I own a Bushnell 3200 elite Firefly it sits on Rem 700 270 WSM I can say that the light transmission is so much better in the Nikon and it is so much more clear.
