No, the Elite 4200's can definitely handle the recoil. What I was referring to was the eye relief (ER). At about 3.25 inches (or so) you may get a kiss... especially if you are a stock crawler. I prefer at least 3.5 inches but 3.75-4.0 is even better.

Thanks for the clarification. Not real up on the eye relief stuff. Limited experiance with anything better than a crappy Simmons or Tasco. ")

Does anyone know the difference between the 3200s and the 4200s? What makes the 4200 better, or are they?

MadMavthe .300 win mag doesn't kick that much but I would say stay away from leupold scopes, both ones I bought I had to send back. I shoot a 300 weatherby mag hand loads and a .50 cal 3x50 =150 gains powder. I have a nikon that cost 133 bucks and it hasn't failed me yet.

I have never seen a Zeiss, Swarovski, or Leupold scope fail, and I have seen more Leupold scopes in elk camps than all other scopes combined.
I have never seen any of those brands of scopes fail, and at one time Leupold was by far the most common scope among the people that I hunt with. However, the recent trend where I hunt is that Leupold have become the minority, since other manufacturers are producing scopes that are as good or better for competitive prices.

I guess I've been lucky with my Leupold's, never had one go bad yet. My buddy's got a VX-III on his 338 RUM and we shoot a lot, no problem with his either. Good thing about Luppys is they will fix it or replace it for life.

The magnafication range of the 4200 is greater. It runs for example from 4 - 16 for the 4200 vs 5 - 15 for the 3200. I am not sure about the glass to be honest but they seem touse the same coatings. The 5 -15 x40 3200 actually has the best eye relief at 4.3 inches one of longest eye reliefs in the industry.

That is generally the case, but Bushnell does offer a 4200 in the 3x9x40 configuration. How that scope differed from the elite 3200 in 3x9x40,I could not tell you. They also sell a 1.25x4x24 elite 4200.To further confuse things, there is a 3x10x40 Elite 3200.
