Total newbie here.. just inherited Rem Gamemaster 760

Hi guys, I'm not a hunter--- but have inherited a few nice weapons from my Dad's hunting collection. One of these rifles is a Remmington Game Master in 30-06. It's in GREAT shape, and I've decieded to keep it as a defense weapon, and possible hunting rifle if I ever get our of Kalifornia and get a chance to hunt.

Can someone point me to the proper Optics to look into for this rifle, and where to look for it?

also, I have a gun enthusiest friend that said I should be careful of the cartridge and power, as it's an older gun... any links or info would be very much appreciated.

BTW-- I've got a few other shotguns and another 30-06 of my pop's I'd like to sell, is selling privately the best approach, or through a shop?

thanks alll.

Welcome to the board. I wouldn't worry too much about shooting that rifle, I shoot a 50+ year old Rem 700 and use any cartridge I want to with no problems. For optics, what is your total budget including rings and mounts and what kind of hunting conditions do you expect? For $300 or so you can get a real nice Bushnell Elite 4200 on E-Bay and pick up the rings and mounts. When you start to sell the guns make sure what the actual value is to the gun. On the www.modernsportsman.com website you can provide the informaion to Sierra on the "what's it worth" section and he will be glad to give accurate, free and honest information. Read a few of his reviews and you will know the type of info needed, maker, serial number, pictures, marks and other info.

I know this is off topic but unless you really really need the money you might want to keep the other guns too. It might be something later on that you might regret if you sell them. It's also something that you can pass down to your kids to have them also enjoy.
