Scope for 22

I am going to get my son a Ruger 10/22 in the next couple weeks and would like to put a scope on it. Anyone have any suggestions for a 22 cal. scope for under $150 that will last as long as the gun. It will be used mostly for target shooting until I feel he is ready to take hunting with a rifle. He is 9 years old.

If you're not looking for a variable power scope, I would go with this...

If you want a variable power scope, I would go with this. Even though it says shotgun it'll be fine for a rimfire.

I have a 3-9X32 Tasco Pronghornon a Savage MarkII. I have another Savage 22LR with a bull target barrel and a high power Proghornvarmint scope with a large objective and adjustable parallex. I have a halographic sight, 2 MOA,on my 10/22. A Tasco World Class is another option or a Bushnell. I can take a gopher well past 100 yards with any of these sight/rifle combos.

I just have a fairly cheap Simmons Deerfield 3x9 on mine and I like that setup and it's worked well for a .22.

If you're NOT going to get a special rimfire scope, then get a scope high enough in power such as 4x-12x that will feature adjustable objective. The reason for rimfire scopes is ALL scopes designed for centerfire rifles are factory adjusted for parallax at 100-150 yards, whereas rimfire scopes come from factory parallax adjusted at 50 yards. Parallax is when you are looking through the scope, and when you move your head, the crosshairs appear to move around on the target, and you CAN miss by that amount too.

I have a cheap Simmons Deerfield 3x9 on my Ruger 10/22 and it's a tack driver.
Father in law gave me the scope as it was just collecting dust..
If it ever went south I would put a Nikon Prostaff 4x32 on it.

I have a Tasco 4X16X42 with adjustable objective and a Tasco replica of the Aimpoint red dotscope. Both are great for different types of shooting.........

Sounds like we have the same setup. At 50 yards mine is a tack driver too. Really accurate.
