RE: 30-30 scope
first off, great gun choice! Brush gun perfection. I have shot over a dozen deer with mine, all DRT and perfect bullet destruction. Scope: go for durability, buy good steel rings (you'll need to likely remove the "V" site to get the scope to fit flush...don't advise the see through mounts, either), and a 4x is likely all you need. Occasionally, you want to get a closer look at your target, so the adjustment is sometimes nice. I have a 4-9 x 32, Simmons I believe, and the sucker is still on zero after9 years...and I am clumbsy and tend to bump rifles a lot...
Reality is you need the ft-lbs and velocity with your shot placement. The 30 30 has done me very well to 175 yards, but most shots were under 100. The scope is your choice, but don't feel like you have to spend big bucks to get what you need, at least for this rifle.
FYI, did you see that Dick's sporting goods had a sale on those w/ scope and sling for under $300!!
Good luck!
