RE: back up scope.?

I'd keep the 3-9 X 40 Nikon and forget the BSA. Why would you need a 6 X 18 scope on the .308? The "cheaper" Nikon's (Prostaff, Buckmasters, Team Primos, etc.) are quite good and a good value to boot. If you get much above 10 X you're probably going to have to get an A.O. model, and the glass quality (on cheapos) usually disappoints.

Bushnell Dusk to Dawn or a Meuller would be my picks.

Ok - Here's my $.02.

BSA .... not no, but heck no !!! My experience with this brand granted is very limited (2 scopes). Both were the so called "Night Owl" line and both were beyond pitiful in low light and about as clear as a Mason jar. I donated them to Goodwill.

If you have to stay economy, look at a Bushnell Banner. If you can send $250-$300 or so, go to the Leupold Vari-X II, Bausch-Lomb Elite 3200 or something like that.

Um, there is no night owl scope in the BSA line up. Night Owl is a brand of first generation night vision optics, not rifle scopes.

Maybe your thinking of the Catseye scopes? I have owned a few and they were no where near as bad as you make them sound. Probably close to the Aetecs in quality and optics. I have a friend that after using mine sold his low end Leupold and got a catseye instead.

In my opinion though for scopes in the 150 dollar range you can do better than a BSA.

Take a look at the compact Burris Short Magnum scopes for $150-$210. Got two of them and they are good scopes.Burris scopesare made right here in the good old USA.
