new rifle and scope

thanks for all the input about the scopes i asked about. weaver or simmons aetec. i finally ordered a remington 700 sps varmit rifle and a leupold VX-1 4x12x40 scope. hopefully it will come in soon at the cabelas store in W. Va. they gave me the best price on both the rifle and scope. cant wait to start busting groundhogs with it. again thanks.

JMHO, but I would ask if they would swap the Lupy for a Elite 3200 in the same power/price range.

I just want to ask what you are paying for the VX I , and what made you decide on that scope over some of the others.... Better Leupold, Nikons, Bushnells, scopes out of these lines ?

Thanks

MET

michael, leupolds reputation is the first thing i considered in my decision. i wanted a scope i could trust. not sure about nikon or bushnell. when i was younger bushnell didnt have a very good reputation. i guess this is still sticking in my mind. by the way im in my 50s so ive been around guns a long time.

I'm with Timber. Swap out that VXI for better glass.

Ya know we like to bag on Leupold's lower end scopes at times, myself included. But the honest truth is none of them are junk. Leupold makes a quality scope with excellent customer service. They simply don't make POS scopes, I mean you can't compare them to a cheaper bushnell, tasco or simmons they are simply steps above those type of scopes in quality and optics.

What we normally mean is for the same or sometimes less money you could get a bit more technology or better features than you can with a bottom end Leupold.

That being said if the extra money for the Leupold is worth the confidence it brings to you then I guess it was worth the money to you. I use a mueller scope and before that used a Cabela's Alaskan guide scope. I love both of them, but many won't use them simply because they don't have the track record that Leupold has and probably never will. And there is nothing wrong with that choice at all.

I concur, piece of mind is always well worth the price of admission.

Leupold does not make junk. AllLeupold scopes areexcellent quality for the money. Having said that, I would personallybuy a better quality Leupold scope.

I prefer fixed power scopes andhave several fixed power Leupold scopes. I hunt hogs at nightusing the Leupold FXIII 6X42 scope. Itretails for $379 and is just as good as my 6X42 Ziess that cost twice as much.
