You should go to sites like Cabelas or Midway and read the reviews of the binos in your price range. That will give you an idea of what's available and what people think of them.

You've got many choices but "best" is up to your eyes to decide. I'd recommend checking out ones such as:
1). Vortex Diamondback 8 X 42 - $200 approx.
2). Bushnell Excursion 8 X 42 - $155 approx.
3). Nikon Trailblazer 8 X 42 $150 approx.
4). Pentax DCF HS 8 X 36- $175 approx.
5). Sightron Big Sky 8 X 42- $250 approx.

The Sightron is a little over budget but they have good glass. I'd probably go with the Vortex or Pentax if it were my choice. Good luck on your selection.

i second the Vortex .... great glass for a great price....check out http://cameralandny2.reachlocal.net/

i got the diamondbacks (10x42) at $129...cannot beat that price..(there is no real blimish on the rubber outer coating)....the glass is very , very nice. IMO.

I've owned just about every mid priced binos and the one I'm sticking with is the Burris Fullfield II I have the 10 by 42 and they awesome for the price. They beat the nikon by far and in my opinion the quality of vision is close to the big 3. The difference I see inthe Fullfieldsand theleicas I own are the leicas will most likely last longer and at high altitudes the Leicas do not fog or change. If I was just going hunt in the midwest or southeast I would sell the Leicas and buy a new bow or gunand use the Fullfields.
