Which scope? rifle or shotgun?

Hi,I'm new here, just logged in and I'm from Pa. and next year it's possible my hunting area may be changed to a shotgun only area.My question is,must you use a shotgun scope on a shotgun?I know that there is exterior physical differences, but I want to know if I can use a rifle scope on a shot gun.To me the recoil of both a rifle and shotgun are similar,So the interior specs on the scopes would be similar. So why would I need to buy a special scope when I could take one off of one of my rifles?Thank you in advance,George.

typically a rifle scope parallax is set to 150 or 200yds, whereas shotgun models, least with mine is set to 75yds.

You don't need to buy a special shotgun scope. Most scopes intended for centerfire rifles have the parallex set for 100 to 150 yards, but on a big game animal at shotgun ranges it won't be a factor.
