Leupold is the best!
I emailed Leupold asked them if I could get another Leupold emblem for my scope cap because mine was lost. This cap is the kind of expensive screw in one from Leupold themselves. They sent me a whole new cap for my objective.
I will always use Leupold for life. SRM out! :) |
RE: Leupold is the best!
Yes, Leuppy makes good scopes and their CS is top notch. But best... not in my opinion. Their glass doesn't compare with the top Euro brands...that includes the V7.

RE: Leupold is the best!
Glad you had a good customer service experience and am also glad to hear that they will at least have one customer for life. They lost my business years ago.[:'(]

RE: Leupold is the best!
They have excellent customer service from what I’ve heard and glad to see you’re happy with the service but I would say they're the best for optics...

RE: Leupold is the best!
Have another glass of that Lupy Kool-Aid. Good, yes - Best, no - Overpriced, probably
|
RE: Leupold is the best!
Yes Leupold is great in customer service! I get fogging or a scratch in my scope, just send it in and they'll fix it. But i believe Zeiss out does them preformance wize.

RE: Leupold is the best!
Bought by a lens cover, your price is low.:D
Personally,I find leupold overpriced for what you get. |
RE: Leupold is the best!
I agree with the CS bit as well, but their product quality has gone down hill now for at least 10 years IMO. Glad to hear that they have somebody to keep them afloat, because it won't be me....

RE: Leupold is the best!
I too find Leupold's current quality level low for what you pay for. They are good, but when I compare them side by side at the $500 - $700 price point with others, they are the most expensive and worst performing, . . .glass, turrets, etc. I was much happier with my Burris XTR. I also thought Sightron had surprisingly goodglass. Burris also sent me some parts and fixed any issues I have had.
My dad has a $250 Leupold 3-9x40 Vari II. I think I'm saying that model right. It is like 10 years old. It will hold a zero on his 270 WSM, but takes some "coming around" to get it zero'd. Holding zero is good, and all he needs, but if I'm an inch low, I want to turn 4 clicks and hit the bullseye with my next shot at 100 yards. When you think your scope is good, try this from a good rest. Set your target up with a level at 100 yards(use a rangefinder). Shoot 5 shots at the bullseye(scope zero'd for the bullseye). Then shoot 20 shots like this: 1. Up 3MOA, R 3MOA, 2. Down 6MOA, 3. L 6MOA, 4. Up 6MOA, 5. R 6 MOA. Move the scope every shot. Compare the 4 outer groups to the bullseye group. For fun, you can number each round of 4 shots. Now compare the average group size for the four outer groups to the bullseye group. I think I really got my eye opened to Leupold's quality sinking when I tried like 20 Leupolds at 6 different retailers in3 different states. I found at least 3 broken turrets, lenses which were coated giving off color representation, lack of flat focus. Some of these were Mark 4's. I would love to interview snipers who have carried them in battle. I can't believe that your average customer is cranking knobs in the store rougher than these guys. I did have a guy at one store tell me not to twist the turrets. He said I would break them. I thought he was just an idiot, but. . .hmm, maybe he knew something afterall![:-] |
RE: Leupold is the best!
I bought a MK 4 for my .338 LM, and that is the reason that I have no interest in owning another. somewhere within say the first 10 shots, and a piece of the reticle came off. I called Leupold they told me that wasn't possible, and that it HAD to be dust. Funny thing was that piece of **DUST** was black, perfectly straight on 3 sides, and the same shape and size as the cross-hair posts on the top, bottom and sides......

RE: Leupold is the best!
At one point Leupolds CS was probably the best. It has been really watered down lately as has their QC. My gunsmith friend used to recommend them exclusively but that is not the way it is now. I'll tell you a little story and you can believe it or not I could care less. My best friend bought a MOdel 52(Browning) that had been customized with a match grade barrel a few months ago. On it was a Leupold 6.5-20x40 VARI-X III gloss finish , the scope looks extremely good considering however old it is,it was made around the time they were introduced and not sure of that time frame. Basically the scope will not hold zero and was sent back to Leupold. Leupold promptly called him and told him that parts were not available for that particular scope. Their solution was 579+ dollars and the scope and he would geta current production scope. He was not agreeable to that and in a week he recieved a new scope box with the old scope in it. Needless to say they lost a lifelong Leupold customer. Sounds like they have the BEST customer service to me eh.

So much for their lifetime warranty. Yeah but he got a new box for the scope and it is a nice looking box[:@] |

Its so wild that peoples experience with Leupold is so vastly different from one another. So vast it makes you wonder. I have had nothing but top notch service. I have sent back scopes over a decade old and they always repaired it.
I have tested with serious optical equipment and find optics right up to par with much more expensive scopes. I dropped on in Nov from 23ft and it survived with flying colors and held zero out to 200 yards. It seems you either are a fan or you hate them. |

I have sent back scopes over a decade old and they always repaired it. Same with bowtech, mathews and other expensive hunting equipment mfg. I know some who has had complete bows replaced, and others that they snickered at. I can't figure it out. I would be ticked off too if I was your friend. Burris about the only company that really ticked me off. And others on here scream how good a company they are. |
RE: Leupold is the best!
Burris about the only company that really ticked me off. And others on here scream how good a company they are. I have personally not had a problem with Leupold CS , others I know have. Burris is a nightmare. I have owned exactly six of them from signatures to fullfields and 3 have had to go back and when they went back only one came back right the first time. That is pretty sorry. |

Maybe I was miss informed or maybe just certain models are like that and the one you had wasn't. My first question would be irregardless of what was wrong with, did they fix it? Paul |
RE: Leupold is the best!
would wonder how that would happen as well, I was under the impression Leupold scopes had etched reticles, so they really can't break like that. They are not a wire, they are a reticle etched into a lens that is why they are supposed to be able to handle heavy recoil and spring air gun use. Only Leupold scopes that have an etched reticle are the B&C reticled models. I would almost be willing to bet that the highend models have them as well. A lot of their reticles are made with a new process where the reticle is cut out of a extremely thin piece of metal by EDM . That would be the LR reticle. |
RE: Leupold is the best!
Personally never had to deal with Leupold in way of returning a scope, know a few who have and heard nothing but good about the process. I have dealt with their CS and found them very good in most aspects. My only complaint stems from the introduction of the VXIII where 3 seperate Leupold Representives lied about the tube construction...some of you might remember the postings for which this occurred. I will not BS I lost a lot of respect for Leupold however I still gave them the benefit of the doubt based on my experience with their Vari XIII's and M6's...really wanting to buy the "new" VXIII. Well like others have mentioned it just didn't stack up to the competition or asking price. Nothing wrong with their optics I just have found others i like better.
As far as CS goes I have had dealings with some great ones and not so great ones. Onenot so great company is one that right now everybody is toting on here...that being Nikon. I was almost a year without my nikon monarch UCCscope as theyfailed tofix the problem, finally after the 3rd attempt they just sent me a new scope. To top it offthe CS manager I dealt with was extremely rude.HeyI might have been one of the few who slipped through the cracks in regards to nikon CS, howeverit happened to me and my reasons are as sound/valid as the person who glows about the same experience. Nikon might be the best piece of glass out their however b/c of this I just can't bring myself to give them anymore of my money based on such a poor experience. It based on my experience be it a vast contrast to the norm or not it was my experience and it holds credibility to me.:D |
