Rangefinder
 

I had a good rangefinder, but some how it got some moisture in it. After that the battery exploded and now it doesn't work. This was all right after the warranty expired of course. So I'm in the market for a new one. Does any one have any input on a rangefinder that has worked for them?

Have used or ownedBushnell, Nikon, Leupiold, Leica and Swarovski LRF's. Swaro's are the cream butI'm notspending the additional bonesto unseat my Leica. Both of thesefeature: ease of use, accuracy, optics, good battery consumption and feature like Red LED Readouts. Thus making the Lieca in my mind a standout when it comes toLRF'sconsidering the investment. I have a Lieca 900 LRF Scan, having ranged animals to over 700 yards and got a refelective reading off my truck over 900 yards. The optics are good, the read out is great for any light but especially low and the accuracy is superb. Nothing like ranging the same object several times and getting the same yardage. I can't say the same for bushnell, nikon or leupold in that regard. To some + or - yards is nothing to worrying about. However to me it was annoying and time consuminghaving check and re-check range points when setting up, especially bowapplications.

Leica makes an excellent range finder as skeeter mentioned. I have no regrets with my Leica 900. Wouldn't hesitate in buying another one if I had to...

Currently Cabelas has their Nikon ProStaff laser 440 rangefinders on sale from $164.88 to 189.88. Thats a pretty good deal for a real good rangefinder.

Depends if your bowhuntin or rifle. The Nikon 440 would work well and be cheap for bow, but good luck rangeing anything in the field over 300yds if your rifle hunting. The Leica is awsome if you want to spend the money. If not I would look at the brand new Nikon Monarch 800/1200's on Ebay. They can be had for $300/360 respectively. Hope this helps, Brett

LEICA!!!! Hands down !!

I am sure that the CRF 900 is available at $499 OR LESS if you research it. Don't be "penny wise and pound foolish", buy the Leica and you will be glad you did!

I had been using a nikon buckmasters rangefinder that my wife had bought me for several years, with no problems...until...I saw a very nice buck in LOW LIGHT and it would not reflect a yardage reading. I could see it with both my scope and binos, but it would not give me a reading in low light. I researched the "new" rangefinders thoroughly before buying the Leica CRF 1200. The fact is that this unit will almost read in the DARK! The optics are so CLEAR that it would certainly replace a pair of compact binos while bow hunting. The size is great and it fits easily in a jacket pocket. The LED sight is very nice and easy to read. This is one of the best "tools" I have ever purchased. If I could rate it 10 stars on a 5 star scale I would! I would very much recomend this to anyone interested in a new rangefinder. I would purchase the Leica 900 CRF for the price difference. It was not available when I bought the CRF 1200. It will prove to be MONEY WELL SPENT!"

I got the Nikon Monarch 1200 this year. So far, so good.
