Scope Adjustment

This might be a crazy question but here goes, When you sight in a scope and say you hit 2 inches below the bullseye and a little to the left. When turning the dials, does up mean upand down mean down? Seems like when i turned the dial up and I shot, the round wasnt on the paper but when I clicked it back down thenI was back on the paper.

Yes, up means up and down means down. If your shots are 2" low and 1" left and you want a direct hit on the bull, on most scopes you would go 8 clicks up and 4 clicks right at 100 yards. If you are shooting 50 yards than it would be 16 and 8 clicks. At 200 it would be 4 and 2 clicks. If your scope does not have click adjustments but has friction adjustments, guess.

Im shooting a 1x scope where 1 click = 1/2. So would that still be 8 clicks up and 4 clicks right?

No, the info I gave was for 1 click = 1/4" of movement at 100. It should be 4 up and 2 right but in reality their is only one way to know, make the adjustments and then shoot it.

I have seen scopes that tracked opposite of the dial instructions, while not the rule it can happen. I would assume it was correct until proven otherwise, so try again by making the appropriate adjustments. I suggest a larger target and solid rest to help you.

FYI if target: ( 1/2" at 100 )
25 yards x4 (8 clicks = 1")
50 yards x2 (4 clicks = 1")
100 yards x1 (2 clicks = 1")
200 yards x. 5 (1 click = 1")

I would double check the 50 yd data. if you do 16 clicks at 50 yds, that is still 16 click at 100. 16 at 100 would be a 4 in adjustment. For 50 yds, wouldn't it be 4 clicks?? half the distance, half the adjustment.

Otherwise, you have gotten correct advice.

The data is correct the closer you are to the target the less movement acheived, therefor more clicks are required to gain the same movement as you would get at 100.

You are correct. I was thinking about it after I posted. I apologize. I was just thinking one dimensional at 100yds, and how the bullet would be affected at 100, and not just shooting 50.

Im not sure on this "clicks this way and that" but this is my suggestion. Get your gun bore sighted at 25 yrds. (bore sighting is truely only good out to 25 yrds) Then slap this puppy in a good rest. At 25 yrds, take a shot with cross hairs on dead center target. Do not move your gun after this shot. Once you find where your hitting (dont move the weapon) adjust the cross hairs to where you shot. Now re-align the cross hairs on dead center of target and shoot again. Should be dead on. If not, a click here or there will put you on bullseye. Now you can push it out in yardage and make your yardage adjustments for 100 yrds or more. Entire sight-in usually takes me about 8 rounds to get 100 yrds down. Believe the military snipers use this method...dont remember exactly what they call this technic:D
