What Magnification?
 

Im looking at getting a new pair binoculars for next season for elk and deer, what do you think I should get for magnification, and I'm 15 so I dont have a big budget.

IMHO if your not buying really good glass stay away from the higher mag bins. 8X in most cases are all that is required anyways, so 7 - 8x 35-42mm inside your budget range.

I really like 10x binos. Go with the absolute best quality you can afford and they'll last a lifetime. Stay away from compact models as they ain't bright enough.

What is your budget? With that info, people could suggest a particular brand and model. I've had good luck with a 7X pair of binos for use under 300 yards and they are awesome in the denser timber. For longer distance in more open terrain, I've considered picking up a pair in 10X (I don't think 8 or 8.5X would be enough of a difference for me to buy another pair of binos).

Check out this site and it has several to choose from in the $100-200 class. I personally use Steiner Military 10x50 for spotting and Nikon 8x25 for glassing in the thick stuff and I hunt Elk in several states and these two work just fine for me. My Steiner’s are $400+ and my Nikons are < $100. This link is just a starting point...

I'd be looking for a 8 or 8.5 power in the 40 to 42mm objectives. These provide me the slight edge during the typical lowlight that I find myself glasing/spotting game. 10x usually seem to loose viewing light a bit to soon.

What you need to look out for (besides quality) is exit pupil. A 8x-40mm is 5mm exit pupil which happens to be same exact size the human pupil expands to in low light. For a 10x to have 5mm exit pupil,it has to have 50mm objective lens.

10 power at least, spend as much as you can. You get what you pay for. My pentax dcf sp's are amazing.

USE A TRIPIOD you will find much more game than if you simply hold them all day!!!!!
