new hunter..

Hey board,

I wanted to know your opinions/recommendations on rangefinders. Are they good?Worth checking into? I'm getting ready for my first season of deer hunting. (Just bought my first rifle a Savage Model 111 in .270 win) I am buying an out of state license for Louisiana this year and will be hunting in 2 of my uncle's deer stands looking down some fire lanes. I'm guessing 100-400 yards. I don't have the greatest of eyesight, so I was considering a range finder to help me in filling the fridge. Thanks for the help.

yes they are great, for 100 yrds with a riflr i would say no but out to 400 i would say yes, if it is your 1st year huntin i would not recomend shooting out to 400yrds unless you have a lot of practice imo

For deer hunting in the 100-200 yd range you do not need the range finder. They work well, but they are also expensive. Make sure you have a good scope and good binoc before getting the range finder.

I don't think it needed yet, make sure you have quality binoculars and rifle scopes your first time out. I wouldn't shoot really far out first time around get your feet wet. Get to learn how it all works and learn your situation.
