I used to swear by Leupold until i looked through a Zeiss. No comparison in my opinion. All my rifles in the future will have Zeiss scopes on them.

RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
I would love to have a Zeiss but I use alot of Luepys, they work great jst hard for me to justify the extra bucks on a Zeiss when what I have works so well for the price.Leupold isn't cheap but it's high compared to alot of others, the Zeiss,Swarovski,S/B group is just a bit too much,I never had a problem as long as they Varix-II and above.

RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
I started a thread not to long agoto get opinions good and bad about the Zeiss conquest and just about everybody gave it a thumbs up.My .280 has one on it now and ill never go back to leupold.I compared it to the VXIII and it won hands down.It was also 200.00 cheaper too.

RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
The Leupold is a good quality scope with excellent customer service but I wouldn’t say that they are superior...
|
RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
I buy the best scope I can afford, which is usually a Leupold. One thing I particularly like about Leupies is their light weight, compared to other brands of the same power. The next time I'm in the market for a scope, I'm going to give the Ziess Conquest line a long hard look.

RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
Wow, I have the opposite opinion. I have owned Leupolds and I will not spend my money on them again. I have Bushnell Elite 4200, Nikon Monarch, Zeiss Conquest and Clearidge Ultra XP and I will take them over the Leupold any day.

RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
The VX-L is an awesome scope. I just couldn't resist putting one on my new tikka and I have no regrets.
|
RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
Stop smoking the Leupold pipe. The Nikon Monarch Gold is better than the VXIII. Superior is not a word I would use to describe Leupold. I have two Schmidt Benders. Now that is what I call superior. You can shoot in the moonlight with those.

RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
after i bought my first Zeiss scope my friends leupold seem like a simmons scope now. leupold just doesnt compare.
|
RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
The word I would have used is "overpriced"
|
RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
I read everybody bashing leupold scopes in this forum and can't help but wonder what their rifles REALLY have on them. I stand behind leupold scopes as they stand behind their customer service. My favorite brand is leupold and will continue to be until someone shows me a clearly superior scope.
|
RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
I was just in the market for a new scope. I went around and around between different models and manufacturers. I narrowed my choice down to the Leopold VX-III and the Zeiss Conquest both in3-9x 40mm. The local Sportsmans Warehouse had them both in stock. I looked through both of them side by side for about 30 minutes, and them came to the conclusion that the Zeiss looked much cleaner and crisper then the Lupy, and the Ocular lens (theside of the scope that the eye looks through)on the Zeiss is larger than the Lupy which allows for faster target acquisition.
One morething, the Zeiss was $90.00less. |
RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
I don't think anyone is bashing Leupolds. I just don't agree with these guys that say that they are the best out there and they are superior. And by the way, I am one of those guys who REALLY owns better scopes than Leupold(A gun safe full of them). So I can speak from experience.
|
RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
I agree Rem. I have own those overpriced European scopes that are to be Gods gift to the hunting industry and have found that the guys that mount this overpriced optics on their favorite firearm are those that want to impress their friends at the range or hunting camp with how much money they have spent. The Leupold Vari X III will perform as well or if not better than the same power of the high overpriced optics. Swarovski 2 x 10needs a 56mm objectivewhere the Leupold LPS outperforms the Swarovski with a 45mm objective in light gathering and multicoated lensesand for less money. Done hearing about the overpriced Germanhipe when we have the BEST made right here in the USA for a lot less money and the best warranty in the optics industry.

RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
You know what they say about opinions. I'll put my SB up against any Leupould any time of the day, especially at dusk. When you are straining to see I'll be counting points on the rack.

RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
I agree with you stubblejumper. I would much prefer a Zeiss Conquest over a VXIII. I've got a VXIII on my Winchester Model 70 .270 and a Conquest on my Armalite AR-50. I like the Conquest better. It seems to be clearer and brighter.

Better be careful about that "low end" comment. You're gonna make some of these Leupold fanatics mad. Ha Ha!

RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
Give a guy a break about liking his Leupold!I have a few and I like them! I just puta ancient 2x7 on my AR and there's nothing wrong with it.If someone enjoys what they have and not knocking yours then say congratulations and let him be!Besides I haven't noticed anyone offering to step up to buy him a S/B,Nikon,Zeiss,...I have different brands, some for different reasons and purposes, they work and that what counts.I have seen self apointed experts on scopes get their butts handed to them when some unassuming gentleman steps up with iron sites and whipps them at long range...it's as simple as use what you like and practice as much as you can!Not saying I have anything against one brand or another(except Simmons),hell give me a great price on a Nikon and it work for me then you can call me happy!Face it folks there is no universal scope for everyone and every need...maybe that why there's varying opinions and brands to choose from.Rant over,we were digressing to grade school sounds of "my Daddy can whip your Daddy" talk. The gentleman is very pleased with his Leupy and I am proud of a member that is satisfied with his choice. Now group hug and pick on me!:D

RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
Well said! I really can't understand everybody slamming american made/OWNED products-I bet those same guys drive toyotas or something and wonder why american companys are struggling. It seems that everybody has to slam a good time tested american OWNED product. Just because they prefer something else don't mean it's junk. The problem is exactly what you said-instead of us banding together,we are segragating and that's where the antis are gaining ground. Just because I hunt with something else don't mean I'm going to say everything but my brand/caliber/model/type is junk.Wake up people!Everybody don't have the money that you do. By the way-zeiss conguest IS higher than vari X 3.

RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
And I thought the reply was going to be someone picking on me! Stalkingbear you make me proud! go ahead and tell me to mind my own biz...come on one free shot at me! LOL I still gain alot of insight from this group just by seeing varying opinions.Good website imho.

Those are close enough prices that it would make it hard to choose! I would like to have a Zeiss or Swarovski,I think Zeiss,Swarovski and Leupold are all great scopes!

RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
Don't get me wrong, I really do like Leupold scopes. I have a couple of them and I like them fine. It just surprises me that these guys keep acting like they are the best scope on the planet. That's just not true. Anyway, to each his own.

RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
They aren't?:DWhoops my bad don't want to get anything started...just anew day and couldn't resist.
|
RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
I'm with you, I swear by the Leupolds.
|
RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
I am not at all loyal to any brand name.I am far too practical for that.I buy the product that I feel provides the best value for the dollar,or provides the best product with a reasonable price. At this point I don't feel that leupold does either. However it does appear that many people will pay top dollar for leupold scopes, even though they don't offer the top performance.

RE: I have one word to say.....Leupold!
Thank you Stubblejumper. I completely agree with you. I heard for years that Leupold was the scope to have. A couple of years ago when I finally had the money to buy one, I put it atop my Winchester Model 70 270 and I took it to the range to sight it in. It's a VXIII 4.5-14 x 50 with a 30mm tube. I was not very impressed. It was hard to see the target at dusk. The next year I had purchased a Schmidt Bender Classic 3-12 x 50 and put it on a Savage 25-06. I had both rifles with me and shot the 270 first. The target was at 100 yards and had red dots about 1 inch in diameter. I was having trouble seeing the dots through the Leupold. I picked up the 25-06 with the SB and I could see my bullet holes in the target and it looked as bright as an hour earlier. There is no comparison between these two scopes. It is like putting a Tasco up against a Nikon. By the way, the Nikon Monarch Gold kicks the VX-III's butt! And it's cheaper!!!! So stop ranting and raving about the Leupold. It's not a piece of crap by any means, but it is definitely not the best scope for the money either. I've been very disappointed by mine. And don't use the word German and crap in the same sentence either. It just don't fit. I'll take fine German glass over anything. Who cares where it was made. What matters is how it was made and how much time, effort, and craftsmanship was put into the manufacturing process. I challenge anyone to show me a better scope than the Schmidt Bender. They've been proven the best and reviewed in many of the hunting magazines to be the best optics on the planet. Don't cry about them and put them down because they cost too much, just appreciate what they are and respect them. I am done.
