Opinions on Nikon Field Scope ED spotter
 

I need a No BS opinion on the Nikon Field scope ED spotters. I'm seriously considering buying one. I don't need suggestions on buying Leupolds etc. I just want any first hand experience with this scope. If anyone has used them and other top end spotters like Swarovski, Zeiss, and Leica etc. a comparison would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have a Nikon Spotter XL 16-47x60. Bought it many yrs ago and havent been dissapointed....for a mid price(569.00 I think is what I payed)spotting scope I am very happy with it...I guess I cant say anything bad about it.Ive used it in the rain and cold/snow with no problems.
If I had too I would buy another one.........

If you don't get enough information here it might pay to post your question on the swfa website. There are a lot of very good optics professionals on there.

I have one and have been pretty happy with it. I've also owned a leopold (little better quality) and a cheaper spotting scope (quality just wasn't there). If I were buying another spotting scope and wasn't too concerned about the extra size and weight, I'd look real close at Nikon's 20-60x82 Prostaff model (I prefer straight rather than angled lenses). The bigger diameter will help more at dawn/dusk situations and the extra power (60 verse 47) will help when you're glassing longer range (say over 1-1.5 miles) and trying to judge if it's the animal you want to spend time stalking. If you have the money, I've always favored Swarovski but you will easily pay double or more for the same power scope and no brand is going to have double the quality of Nikon. Another way to decide is see if your local gunstore will let you try out their scopes outside around dusk. You'll know real quick if the Nikon has enough quality for your needs or not and will be able to decide on any other brand scope as well.
