RE: Elite 4200 or Nikon Monarch?
Nikon Monarch is a geat scope, but so is a 4200. How much stock do you put in to the rainguard feature. I love the Nikon scopes, but they are about identical except of the rainguard feature. comapre that and prices and what comes out on top? I buy Nikons, but I would consider the 4200.
It is a lot of what you like. What power range are you looking at? At the optic zone, you can comapre the following. Nikon Monarch 4x12x40 matte , nikoplex 339.00 Bushnell 4200 4x16x40 matte, multi-x 339.00 In this case, I like the Bushnell. |

4200 is the best value for money I have seen in years. I can't believe how clear. Its right up there with my leupolds and ziess.
I never was a big fan of the Nikons. For some reason I am not sure of, you can loose your sight picture rather easily with Nikons monarchs. |
RE: Elite 4200 or Nikon Monarch?
You have to go up to about $700 to find a Leupold that compares to either.
The Zeiss Conquest is indeed better than a Monarch or an Elite 4200. Here in Western Washington, we had 30" of rain in the month of November. Coincidentally, that's hunting season. Lot's of folks had to do their hunting in continuous downpours of 3,4,5 days. Many, many shops in the area got quite a few 4200s back due to internal fogging. Now, I know most hunters will never face conditions as extreme as what we saw here. However, if I was going to spend my hard-earned $$$ on a scope, I think I would take into consideration that those same shops didn't get back a single Nikon, Burris or Weaver Grand Slam. |

I can get the 3x9x40 Elite 4200 for $239 or the Monarch 3x9x40 for $255. I think the Elite is a little brighter but I'm a little concerned about the eye relief.

Why not get the Nikon for less than both?

I would jump on the Nikon but I do not like the BDC Reticle. Have looked at the Sightrons and they actually look pretty good. Anyone have any experience with them?

ORIGINAL: VAhuntr I would jump on the Nikon but I do not like the BDC Reticle. Have looked at the Sightrons and they actually look pretty good. Anyone have any experience with them? I'm asking because I've been researching scopes and have pretty much decided on the Nikon Monarch 3-9X 40mm with the BDC Reticle so that link made me pretty happy as it is about $40 cheaper than any I've seen. I've seen a few other places that have the Nixoplex Reticle for $250 but the BDC Reticle has been running $20 more. If you haven't read this review it might be helpful in making your decision - http://www.savageshooters.com/Pages/HuntingScopeComparison_Page.html FWIW, Nathan |
