You can probably get a better quality scope for the same amount of money.

Nikon Buckmasters, Pentax Pioneer, Burris Fullfield II, Sightron SII, Browning Buckmark are all as good or better than the VX-2...and the same price as the VX-1 you are considering.

The Bushnell 3200 has good glass, too, but there have been reports of those and the 4200 series having internal fogging problems in wet climates.

IMHO, the VX-1 is an overpriced POS and shouldn't be given the slightest consideration.

RE: Leupold VXI

Nikon Buckmaster at about $210
Bushnell 3200 at about $165
S II Sightron at about $229
Burris FFII at about $200
If you can go up to $260 the Bushnell 4200 Elite is probably the best in its class. These are approximate prices from www.riflescopes.com
Look through www.samplelist.com at the used/refurbished scopes. Sometimes you can get GREAT prices on excellent optics.

I went through the same situation as you are in about a week ago. I held and looked through all the scopes thatare mentioned. It came down to the FFII and the Buckmaster. I ended up with a 3-9x40 Nikon Buckmaster with the BDC reticle. I am very happy with this scope. Hope it helps.

I have a Leupold VX-I 3-9x40mm and love it, you can't go wrong with a Leupold.
