30mm vs. 1in tubes?
 

I am looking atLeopold VXIII 6.5-20x40 scope for prairie dog huntingand I can't decide which recital to get. I am torn between the target dot (which I really like) and the thin duplex. The target dot has a 1in tube with tall towers and the duplex recital has a 30mm tube with shorter towers.Also theAO on the duplex scopeis side adjustable where theon target dot it isup front.They are both the same VXIII, power and everything, I am just not sure what these little differencesare actually good for. Can someone help?

I have the Leupold Euro 3-9 x 50 mm with the 30 mm tube and I know that the internal part are the same as the 1” tube. The Euro was designed for the European market but I’m not sure on the VXIII models would have the same construction. You could always contact Leupold to verify this if no one knows...

Ridgerunner is correct. The main attraction for 30 mm tubes is more adjustment leeway for windage and elevation. I think standard 1" tubes have somewhere around 60 or 70 inches and some 30 mm tubes have as much as 100"
As far as the reticles, I don't even know what a tower is.
