Top binoculars for under $200
What are my options for a pair of 10x42's? Camo would be nice but I can live with green or black.

I've said this before.
If your going to settle for a pair of bino's under that market range, I highliy recomend buying porro prism...The quality control just isn't there if your looking for something in roof prism... Not yet anyway........ They may appear to all that in the store but once you try them in the field under all conditions mother nature has to offer you will notice heavy eye fatigue and you will be second guessing that purchase... That being said I'd look at Nikon, Steiner, Bushnell (Disc Series) in models designed in Porro Prism..... |

I saw a Bushnell buckmaster or similar in the stores last year for $99 or close to it. should have bought them.

Jeff Ovinton is right. Go with Porro Prism binos. They are heaveier but you will get more banfg for the buck.
If I were looking for good cheap binos, I would look for some porro prism binos made in Japan. You can find Used Bausch & Lomb Discoverers or Legacy binos for your price range. Or try Nikon Action series. You can also get some 8x30 steiners (Germany) for 200 bucks. Don't ignore Russian Binoculars. Heavier but tough and also very good glass. Yukon 10 x 50's are fully multicoated, waterproof, bomb proof and under 100 bucks. Check out this website for reviews and info on many types of binos. www.holgermerlitz.de/index.html Look at what he says about the Russian BPO 7x30 I happen to love cold war millitary binos nad hunt with them regularly good luck Marco |

I would agree as well. If optical quality is your primary concern then you would be well advised to invest in a pair of porros in that price range. You really have to spend closer to $300 if you want a decent pair of roofs.

Check on Carson Optics. Many people will be quick to dismiss them, but I love my 8x42 in Mossy Oak Obsession.
