RE: Binoculars
They are expensive, but the bigger the better. Personally, I would go w/ AT LEAST 7x40.......The more eye relief the better. Once you use good, powerful bino's with good eye relief...You'll never go back to the cheap, small ones.

RE: Binoculars
anything between a 7 x 40 and a 10 x 50 . That is a good mix of power and objective diameter. Look on ebay, but also check it against this site , www.durhanoutdoorsupply.com . They have good prices and free shipping on a lot of stuff. There are other sites too, if you care to compare. Optics planet, the optic zone ... and I have heard great things about vortex binos as far as quality compared to price . I would definitely check them out.

RE: Binoculars
Without getting technical I'll just say, go with what they said above. Optics are pretty much the pound for pound deal. That is, you get what you pay for for the most part. The best glass cost money. You want the powers mentioned above and waterproof. At least that should be your goal. $$$ might determine something else in your particular case, but start with those givens. Terrain and what you use them for will fine tune your needs but the powers mentioned are generally the best.

RE: Binoculars
I would lean towards an 8x40 or 10x40, any smaller objective just doesn't gather enough light to see detail at very first and last light. It's worth carying around the extra bulk, I am speaking from experience!!;)

RE: Binoculars
Get something in the 10x32- 10x42 range, then get a binobuddy strap.

RE: Binoculars
Forfield use I like 10x42's.They are as large as I want to tote but enough mag to be useful in a variety of situations. I second a bino buddy strap to go with your bino purchase.

RE: Binoculars
Excellent info posted to help you. I have a set of 8 x 42. Great for carrying around but I don’t find they have quite enough power for field observation. My next pair will be at least 10 x 42...

RE: Binoculars
I prefer 10x magnification and 40-42mm objective diameters. With quality glass, you don't need 50mm objectives.
