Recurve shooters
 

For all of the recurve shooters out there I have a question. What do you think of the new rules? In my mind it seems that most of the shooters will be in the HR class. I'm also concerend about the increase in yardage. Won't that hurt new people comming into the class? It won't really matter about the rule changes if there are only 20 or so people in each class.

the yardage is only 5yds. more then the former max and that is only if each stake is set at max, there shouldn't be that much of a difference overall. the change was made with the cubs in mind so they do not have to try and shoot an average of 26yds. at a shoot with adults when they just came from fbh at 15yd. max. there will now be an even 10yd increase from fbh to youth.

Looking at the new Hunters recurve class it appears that there are now two recurve classes but the equipment restrictions are different, The yardage has been increased though.

It looks to me like the equipment is the same. The only difference I see is that the RU class will now allow string walking, face walking, which is an advantage if you are able to master it and in the RU class you can shoot off a rest/plunger. Also the RU class and the new RH class should state recurve only and not recurve/longbow as longbows have their own class. It will be interesting to see how this class divides out next year. Its great that they are changing the max. yardage for the cubs and creating a new class for Youth Traditional. I hope to more young archers this year shooting traditional equipment.

Longbows will be able to shoot in the RH class if they choose to shoot alum. or carbon arrows . The MTRAD class you can only shoot wood arrows.

Forgot, if you choose to shoot three fingers under with a longbow that would put you in the RH class . I could never figure out the reasoning behind that rule in MTRD class

You asked for it...........so here is my two cents worth.
I hope to have 20 in each class at the triple crowns, but I have my doubts. I talked to three guys already that is ready to quit! I myself am not ready to quit. I like the competition and the fact of making new friends and seeing old friends. I personally think moving the yardage to 35 yards was a mistake. It is just going to seperate the playing field. If you look at the scores from the triple crown you will see what I am talking about. As far as changing the yardage for the little guys, all one had to do is set a different color stake.
Our class was slowly but surely growing. Now I think this was a move in the wrong direction. I personally don't like to compete in a class where there is only 8-10 shooters. I feel there will be alot of guys forced to shoot in the RU class because of money invested in their equipment. I can't say that I disagree with the two classes at a 35 yard max, because the equipment I shoot is an advantage at long range. If you keep the yardage at 20-25 yards I have NO advantage at all.It maked everbody equal.ASA is a good example of that.

I think that RU string walking is for wussies. Watson is kissing FITA. I believe at the meeting for RU before the shoot at world IBO the majority said no string walking, nice they were listened to. RU is a tough division and should be kept that way. At the bottom of this post is a section of RU from FITA rules. From What I can tell, in European countries, STRING walking is allowed when the distance to the target is over 40 meters, it may be farther. Adding the RU hunter division was to plasade and keep quiet the ones who did not want string walking. It's a shame to split talented division. The talented RU shooters will adapt quickly and it will not change placements. Actually, the really talented RU shooters have been beating STRING WALKERS for years...........



RU FITA Rules
7.3.1.2.1 which may be of different colors and of the material chosen for
the purpose. It may have a center serving to accommodate the
drawing fingers, a nocking point to which may be added serv-ing(
s) to fit the arrow nock as necessary, and, to locate this
point, one or two nock locators may be positioned. At each end
of the bowstring there is a loop which is placed in the string
nocks of the bow when braced. In addition one attachment is
permitted on the string to serve as a lip or nose mark. The serv-ing
on the string must not end within the archer’s vision at full
draw.

The bowstring must in no way offer aid in aiming through
a peephole, marking, or any other means.
