In the past I have always tried to get my bow to shoot a slightly hi left tear through paper. I was always told that this is better for a right hander. Because it gets your arrow up and away from the rest and it gives you more room for error on a less than perfect shot. I shoot a drop away rest now. Should I try to get a bullet hole through paper now? Has anyone had any experince with this?

I am a lefty and when i tune my bows I want bullet hole.I want it perfect, so will not have a excuse to blame the bow, if it doesnt hit where i aimed it will usally be the dip behind the grip. And why set up a bow for a error when you shoot?Man tune that bow perfect, and get out there and get to know ya bow , and work on form

I agree. Paper tune for a bullet hole through paper. With the drop away rest you will get good arrow flight and take the guess work out of shooting . Set the bow up and then as the previous post stated, work on your shootng form and you will do well. Good luck and good shooting!

THANKYOU, ARSHOOTER AND HOYTSHOOTER1977. I just picked up my 05 platinum Ultratec from the bow shop this morning. I will take your advice and tune it for a bullet hole. This is the first Hoyt I have owned. I have only had it for a few hours and I already love it. I dont know why it took me so long to get one.

In my experience, the fall away rests all paper tune easier than conventional type rests. Because they drop or fall out of the way they are not GUIDING the shaft for any long amount of time. I also feel that there is too much weight put on the paper tuning aspect. If your form is not good and you can't make a good shot you will never get consistently good holes. A friend of mine who is one of the better shooters in the state and a dealer doesn't even worry that much about it !! He sets up a bow and shoots an arrow, then shoots his 2nd arrow aiming at the 1st. If they both hit the same he adjusts the sight knowing that if they hit the same that the bow must be adjusted properly. I setup alot of bows that I can shoot good holes with but the customer will never be able to until they work on their form. This may not apply to most shooters on this forum but does apply to alot of new shooters. If someone is choking their bow grip they may as well give up on shooting good holes. If all they want is to kill a deer at under 20 yards ok, if they want to hit a 14 or 11 ring then they need to work at it !!

Well some truth to what ya say about if you just a hunter, and paper tuning. But a target shooter, will need to have good form first, paper tuning a bow at say 5 yards away then drop back to around 15 yards and see if the bullet hole stays the same.If so then 2 things have happened, 1 is that you got bow tuned, second is that evidentually you have pretty good form too.But when we shoot at 50 yard shots then you better make sure there arrow flight doesnt change as you get back fom the paper. It all will fall into play, but you cant start on ya form until the bow is set up correct.I have seen a few shooters do that the way you say with shooting arrow at arrow, but usally thy setting up a hunting bow.I work on my paper tuning te way i would shoot , with my back tension.I use to think paper tuning was hog wash, but I see now that my scores tell me different, as my jusdging yardage is usally + or - 1 yard. But hey everyone has there on way and what they want out ofthere shooting and there equipment.Good luck. And see those that are shooting the southern triple crown , in Wetumpka. merry x mas

IMO a bullet hole is better than high left but if a right handed person had a tear other than a bullet hole high left would be better than anything else.Sometimes I can settle for a little high left bun never anything else.
